Ipas Pakistan marked the 16 Days of Activism against Gender Based Violence by hosting a knowledge sharing and networking event “Unpacking Reproductive Health Responses for Saving Lives and Wellbeing” on December 4, 2024, in Islamabad. The event honored the dedication of frontline healthcare providers from ICT, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab, who play a pivotal role in delivering safe reproductive health services. Syeda Batool Mazhar set the context by highlighting the distinct intersection between reproductive health and gender-based violence. The panel discussion “Conversation about Health Systems Preparedness and Response to GBV” featured SRH experts Dr. Azra Ahsan, Vice Chair, Contraception Committee, FIGO; Dr. Aziz-Un-Nisa, President, SOGP; and Ms. Ayesha Salma, Country Director, Ipas Pakistan, moderated by Dr. Saima Zubair, Vice President, Women’s Health, Pakistan Academy of Family Physicians. The panel discussion highlighted the challenges faced by women at their household level and health facility level, impacting their psychological and physical wellbeing. The key takeaways from the panel discussion are: ·       Implementing existing GBV protection frameworks effectively in healthcare systems. ·       Pre-service and in-service training of healthcare providers in trauma-informed care for GBV survivors and linkages to referrals psychological support and legal aid. ·       Understanding and addressing the risks that healthcare providers face in responding to complex GBV cases.  ·       Building stronger collaboration between healthcare, legal systems, and civil society. ·       Unlocking access to SRH services including treatment for early pregnancy loss and contraception in humanitarian emergencies. On November 19, Ipas Pakistan partnered with Rahumna FPAP on International Men’s Day by organizing an awareness raising session to recognize the role of men in decisions around reproductive health and family planning choices. At Alipur Tehsil, District Muzaffargarh, 25–30 community men actively participated in a session focused on their vital role in creating safer, healthier, and more empowering environments for women. Ipas Pakistan also recognized and appreciated the significant contribution of their men colleagues by highlighting their crucial role in safe reproductive health services delivery in communities. “We never knew there is a specific day for men as well, thanks to Ipas for acknowledging our role" - Hussain H Ali, Country Finance and Admin Manager. “Before these sessions, no one had ever spoken to us about our role in reproductive health and family planning. It was eye-opening. We’ve never had conversations about these issues with our sons or nephews before. Ipas Pakistan, in collaboration with our partners PSI and DKT, recently held a Technical Advisory Group (TAG) meeting for our project, "Accelerating Contraceptive Uptake through Post-Pregnancy Care Model”. The meeting focused on reviewing the Medium Fidelity Prototype of our innovative care model, set to be tested in Islamabad. This collaborative session yielded valuable feedback to enhance the prototype's impact, feasibility, and scalability. In collaboration with the Department of Health (DoH), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Ipas conducted a clinical training on “Saving Mothers' Lives through Quality Reproductive Health Services”, at the Moulvi Ameer Shah Memorial Hospital in Peshawar from September 30 to October 3, 2024. This training aimed to enhance the clinical capacity of healthcare providers, ensuring better reproductive health services for mothers and their families. This initiative is part of the DoH KP’s commitment to ensure access to quality reproductive health services in the province to reduce maternal mortality and morbidity and help achieve Pakistan’s SDG 3 target and FP2030 commitments.
