Do you celebrate Christmas 🎄 on the 24th or the 25th? As a multinational team, this time of year brings about The Great Debate of what day Christmas actually is. Our North and Central American roots say 25th. Our Swedish roots say 24th. So we will throw the debate out the window and wish you all a very merry Christmas all week long! Happy tidings, and we hope you are able to celebrate the holidays in whatever manner you like. #HappyHolidays #Christmas2024

The Swedish government approved a proposal for changes to the EU Blue Card starting January 1st, 2025. Notable changes include: 💶 Lowering the salary to 1.25 the median Swedish salary (SEK 49.875) 📜 Reducing the required contract length to six months 🏥 Extending the required health insurance to the duration of the employee's permit (if less than one year) We did a deep dive into the EU Blue Card back in August, but have made an updated resource with the new changes in requirements and limitations. Make sure to give it a read and see if your employees are eligible for the EU Blue Card from 2025 👓 Questions? Don't forget to ask them in the comments! #EUBlueCard #InternationalEmployees #InternationalTalent #WorkInSweden #TalentShortage #EU #EuropeanUnion #Sweden

Do you feel like you're stuck in an unemployment rut? During times of high unemployment, internationals often find themselves struggling even harder to land jobs that they're qualified for. Whether it's subconscious hiring biases, cultural clashes, or lack of recognition for foreign education and experience, brain waste is something that needs to be tackled for a sustainable economic future. In this live, we speak with Lucy Larsson, cofounder of Garden of Talents, to discuss brain waste in Sweden, the biggest challenges facing international job seekers, and what companies can do to better facilitate international hiring and retention. ----------- What is brain waste? Brain waste is the non-recognition of the skills (and qualifications) acquired by a migrant outside of the EU, which prevents them from fully using their potential. ----------- About Garden of Talents: Garden of Talents aims to turn the recruitment industry on its head and bridge the gap between companies and internationals. Included is a ten-week in-depth training, with personal development, professional adaptation, presentation techniques, and personal packaging of skills. This helps the companies to significantly reduce the recruitment risks of wrong recruitment. Which helps companies save both time and resources. In this way, we fight the loss of skills in Sweden, or brain waste, for a more inclusive and competitive labor market. Curious to join Garden of Talents? Learn more at https://lnkd.in/ggBf_btr

If you live in Sweden, you will have recently received a Swedish version of this pamphlet. Are we at war? In short, no. We are not at war, but we are in a heightened state of alert. Even when a country isn't at a heightened state, you should always have a home emergency action plan (EAP) since emergencies can happen at any time. The pamphlets that were sent to all registered households are in Swedish. You can find an online version or order one in Swedish, easy Swedish, or English. While everyone should read through the pamphlet themselves, here are some key points to remember: 🪖 All Swedish citizens (including those living abroad) and Swedish residents between ages 16 and 70 are required to serve in Sweden's total defence. If you never served in the military, this doesn't mean you'll be given a gun. You are expected to go to work as usual until you are designated a posting (pg. 9). 📣 There are different outdoor warning systems. To react calmly and correctly, you should learn what the different warnings sound like (pg. 10-11, 32). 🔷 Learn where your nearest air raid shelter is. Most apartments have them built in (pg. 20). In the event of an evacuation, bring some emergency equipment if you have time (food, water, clothes). 🎒 You can contribute to the collective preparedness by making sure you are prepared to survive on your own for a week. This includes having water, non-perishable foods, and emergency lamps (pg. 15-18). Importantly, don't panic. Don't hoard. I understand that receiving this pamphlet can be a scary thing, especially if you weren't expecting it. Be prepared, don't doom scroll, and talk to your friends and family if this is weighing heavily on you. I've uploaded the English version for your convenience. Link to the MSB website is: https://www.msb.se/en Questions about the pamphlet or how to create your own EAP? Feel free to ask in the comments 👇 #EmergencyPreparedness #EAP #Sweden #War #CrisisPreparedness #EmergencyActionPlan

As we have officially entered into the holiday season with the First Advent yesterday, we'd like to wish everyone a very happy holidays and hope that your last month of 2024 is busy and full of joy. We know that the holiday season can be a difficult time for many people. Many internationals are away from their families and cannot travel, either due to finances, work, or waiting on residence permit extensions. Here are some ways to add cheer to the holiday season 🥂 🕯️ Add more lights to your home. Tis the season for candles and cozy ambience lighting, and it's now officially acceptable to put up your Christmas decorations. You'd be surprised how just a few candles can make everything feel a little brighter. 🥘 Host a dinner for your fellow internationals and Swedes! This is your chance to deepen your relationship with your new "family" in your new country. Whether it's a traditional julbord or a potluck, everyone appreciates an invite to dinner. 🎄 Visit your local Christmas market for some glögg (they have non-alcoholic versions, too) and a festive atmosphere. For people who have moved to a new country, how have you coped with loneliness during the holidays? What brings you joy? #Holidays #Sweden #WorkPermitHolders #InternationalEmployees #LiveInSweden #GodJul #HappyHolidays #InternationalLife

Attention HR and global mobility departments 🚨 Whether it's for a business trip or holiday, it's crucial for you and your international employees to stay informed about temporary border controls across several Schengen countries. Encourage your team to carry both their passport and residence cards when traveling by land, air, and sea to avoid complications at border checks. If you have international employees awaiting permit decisions, caution is even more critical. Travellers who are awaiting decisions but have expired permits could face problems entering Schengen countries, even Sweden, under current conditions. 🔔 Don't forget to follow us to stay up to date on immigration news and relocation tips! #Immigration #Schengen #Travel #BorderControl #ResidencePermits #GlobalMobility #HR

Traveling within the Schengen region during the holidays? Don't forget your passport and your residence card 🪪 The Schengen region, which has long enjoyed open internal borders, is currently facing temporary border controls by several EU countries due to increased security threats. If you are traveling within the Schengen region during the holidays, remember to carry your passport and residence card, even if you only intend to travel by land. Some relevant border controls for Swedish residence permit holders include: - Sweden 🇸🇪 Controls at all internal borders by land, sea, and air until May 11th, 2025. - Denmark 🇩🇰 Controls at all internal borders and land and sea borders with Germany until May 11th, 2025. - Norway 🇳🇴 Controls at all internal borders by land, air, and sea until May 11th, 2025. - Germany 🇩🇪 Controls at borders with Poland, Switzerland, and Czechia until December 15th, 2024, with a potential for extension. Controls at borders with France, Belgium, The Netherlands, Luxembourg, Austria, and Denmark until March 15th, 2025. - The Netherlands 🇳🇱 Controls at land and air borders with Belgium and Germany until June 8th, 2025. If you are awaiting a decision, be cautious when traveling within the Schengen region. While open internal borders have made travel less risky during decision periods, the current situation increases the likelihood of border checks. If you are waiting on a decision and your previous permit has expired, your right to enter a Schengen country (even when returning home to Sweden) is not guaranteed.
