At Pacific Carriers Limited (PCL), we were honored to participate in the #SIBCON2024 panel on "Viewing Energy Transition through the Lens of Shipping." A big thank you to the organizers and to Sarah Greenough, Head of Maritime Enterprise at BHP, for moderating the session. We also extend our appreciation to our fellow panelists, Farid Trad from CMA CGM and Mike Muller from Vitol Asia, for their insightful contributions. Our Deputy CEO, Capt. Chubasco Monteiro, shared PCL’s perspective on the revolutionary nature of the energy transition—comparable to the industry’s shift from steam to engine-powered vessels and most of all within a very demanding timeline. As a vessel owner operating across multiple segments, we recognize that decarbonization is both a challenge and an opportunity to innovate. From exploring alternative fuels to preparing our seafaring workforce for the future, PCL remains committed to sustainable growth. However, this transformation cannot be achieved in isolation. It requires close collaboration between shipowners, cargo owners, regulators, and ports. For shipowners and operators involved in the tramping trade, a reliable global supply of alternative fuels is essential. Yet, the current infrastructure for these fuels remains underdeveloped, posing a significant challenge for this sector. Together, we must navigate the complexities of a multi-fuel marketplace and ensure a successful energy transition for the entire industry. #EnergyTransition #Decarbonization #ShippingIndustry #Sustainability #Collaboration #PCL #PacificCarriersLimited #SIBCON
