At Pacific Carriers Limited (PCL), we were honored to participate in the #SIBCON2024 panel on "Viewing Energy Transition through the Lens of Shipping." A big thank you to the organizers and to Sarah Greenough, Head of Maritime Enterprise at BHP, for moderating the session. We also extend our appreciation to our fellow panelists, Farid Trad from CMA CGM and Mike Muller from Vitol Asia, for their insightful contributions.   Our Deputy CEO, Capt. Chubasco Monteiro, shared PCL’s perspective on the revolutionary nature of the energy transition—comparable to the industry’s shift from steam to engine-powered vessels and most of all within a very demanding timeline. As a vessel owner operating across multiple segments, we recognize that decarbonization is both a challenge and an opportunity to innovate. From exploring alternative fuels to preparing our seafaring workforce for the future, PCL remains committed to sustainable growth.   However, this transformation cannot be achieved in isolation. It requires close collaboration between shipowners, cargo owners, regulators, and ports. For shipowners and operators involved in the tramping trade, a reliable global supply of alternative fuels is essential. PCL Takes a Stand for Maritime Arbitration: Signing of the SCMA Pledge Today, Pacific Carriers Limited (PCL) proudly formalized its commitment to the maritime ecosystem by signing the Singapore Chamber of Maritime Arbitration (SCMA) Pledge. Our CEO & MD, Mr Hor Weng Yew, joined SCMA Chairman, Mr Chao Hick Tin SC DUBC, in affirming our shared goal of enhancing maritime arbitration in Singapore. This pledge reflects PCL’s dedication to promoting the use of SCMA Rules in maritime and international trade disputes, while actively participating in SCMA’s activities, discussions, and events.
