Our esteemed panel of debaters (John Gibson (Brookes Bell), Shanna Ghose (Hill Dickinson LLP), Wole Olufunwa LL.M. FCIArb (Wikborg Rein) and Toby Stephens (HFW)) probably have over a century of arbitration experience between them. Ably moderated by Andrew Moran KC , the debaters will engage in what promises to be an entertaining and fun debate, but at the same time nuanced and thought provoking. The debate aims to raise interesting questions about the roles and limitations of maritime experts in dispute resolution proceedings, as such Chatham House Rules will apply. The intention is to start the year off with meaningful discussions. Offering some post New Year food for thought on the broad issues relating to the intersection where experts meet the lawyers and their legal proceedings.

⚓ SCMA held a one-day marine technical seminar in Mandarin with partners SMIT Salvage and Richards Hogg Lindley (RHL) on 12 November 2024.   Many thanks to Mr. Jody Sheilds, Manager Commercial APAC and Mr. Victor Li, Senior Commercial Manager at SMIT, as well as Mr. Matthew Cao, Managing Director at RHL (SEA) for hosting their enlightening sessions about Managing Marine Emergencies and Average Adjusting. 🌟 A heartfelt thank you to all the SCMA members who joined us at SCMA Members' Appreciation Night (MAN) last evening! The evening started off with SCMA Chairman, Mr. Chao Hick Tin SC, highlighting SCMA’s key achievements in 2024 and sharing with our guests SCMA’s key plans for 2025 in the areas of Thought Leadership, Membership Value and Service to Users.   A special thanks to Mr Teo Siong Seng, Executive Chairman, and Mr. Lars Kastrup, CEO, Pacific International Lines (PTE) Ltd for gracing MAN 2024 and hosting this event at PIL’s gorgeous office premises. We are deeply touched by Mr Kastrup’s welcome address where he expressed PIL’s appreciation for SCMA’s pragmatic approach to maritime arbitration — one that is efficient, flexible and cost-effective. He also highlighted the attractiveness of SCMA’s diverse panel of arbitrators, which comprises a broad mix of experts with maritime experience and allows for tailored expertise in every case. The evening ended on a delightful note as old and new friends from not only Singapore but also Australia, China, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Thailand, the UK, and Vietnam gathered and reconnected over drinks, food, music 🎶 and chatuchak coconut ice cream 🍦 We thank PIL for their ongoing support and continued advocation of the use of the SCMA arbitration rules.
