Yesterday, our lead architect, Jean Francois Milou, was part of the judging panel for the World Architectural Festival's category for Completed Buildings: House & Villa (Urban/Suburban). The panel - including architects Kate Rogan (New Zealand), Mohamed Rahimizadeh (Iran), and Jean Francois - judged 16 projects, before settling on the winner, Arthur Residence, by 5468796 Architecture (Canada). Each project had exceptional merit, and deciding on a winner was far from easy. Warmest congratulations to each contender in this category, and all others at this year's WAF. And, well done to the festival organizers for yet another exceptional experience and opportunity for architects worldwide to come together, dialogue, and enjoy a moment of pause. #urbandesign #urbanarchitecture #residentialdesign #Worldarchitecturefestival #studiomilouSingapore #studiomilouvietnam #goodesign

StudioMilou conducted a recent visit to the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long – Hanoi, a World Heritage Site, in the context of a study into its potential site museum and archaeological park. Jean Francois Milou, StudioMilou’s Founder/Lead Designer, Nguyen Thanh Trung, Director of StudioMilou Vietnam, and Suzanne Ogge, Director of the studio's Heritage Projects, were privileged to spend time with Professor Tong Trung Tin, Director of the Vietnam Archaeological Institute, discussing the complexities and opportunities of representing archeological sites with innovative and accessible architectural and exhibition design. The Imperial Citadel, built in the 11th century by the Ly Viet Dynasty on the remains of a 7th-century Chinese fortress, served as a political center until the 19th century. Its buildings and the archaeological site reflect the unique civilizations of the lower Red River Valley, with distinct influences from China and the ancient Champa Kingdom. An exceptional site on so many levels. Our project for the site integrates extensive expertise in heritage research, architectural, exhibition, and landscape design, creating a harmonious ensemble that respects the site’s historic significance while acknowledging its contemporary role in Hanoi and Vietnam’s natural, human, and urban landscapes. It was an honor to co-facilitate a Webinar on 17 September with Professor Hanna Schreiber, introducing the UNESCO 2003 Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) and the upcoming 18th Annual Meeting of the South-East European Experts Network on ICH. The meeting, scheduled for 9-11 October 2024 in Warsaw, will focus on ICH in urban contexts. This initiative by UNESCO will gather nearly 40 representatives from cities across South East Europe to exchange insights and explore strategies for preserving living heritage in today's fast-changing urban landscapes. Like many in France, the sabotage of train lines is disrupting plans, personal and professional. It's surely far harder for so many. Let's unite and rise above these desperate efforts to undermine the country and the games. Our thoughts are with all those affected by this attack. We stand with France and the Olympic games and athletes. #France #Olympics #Solidarity

studioMilou is delighted to learn that the Ho Chi Minh Opera project for which our company was ranked first place in the international competition that took place in 2021, is planned to take off next year, in recognition of the 50th anniversary, marking the north-south unification of Vietnam. We look forward to this launch, and count the design for the Ho Chi Minh Opera house among the companies' most important in terms of its cultural resonance and integration into the surrounding landscapes. Our teams in Vietnam, France, Australia, UK and Singapore worked tirelessly to win this competition and are committed to its realization, through forging close ties with our colleagues in the Vietnamese government, and local communities. In early April, studioMilou carried out a mission with the Gelati Rehabilitation Committee’s National Scientific Council of the UNESCO World Heritage site and medieval monastic complex, Gelati Monastery, in the Imereti region of western Georgia. Archimandrite Kirion (Oniani) - Deputy Chairman of the Committee, Secretary of the Committee’s Council, Professor David Lorkdipanidze, and studioMilou’s Jean Francois Milou discussed to advance the studio's architectural Master Plan in ways that accommodate the housing and spatial needs of the religious order. Our focus was on finding a balance between the religious community’s privacy and daily routine, and managing an increasing visitor flow. This religious complex holds immense importance due to its monastic functions as much as its integrity as a remarkable architectural, spiritual, and historical site, and the National Scientific Council’s collaboration with the monastic community exemplifies the kind of collaboration increasingly called for by UNESCO between its 1972 World Heritage Convention, and its 2003 Convention for the Safeguarding of Intangible Heritage. The project supporters/funders include the Government and the Patrarchate of Georgia, and the civil Society Iveriisa, Chaired by Mr Giorgi Tvadze, which initiated crowdfunding, with contributions contributing to the site’s protection, fostering public engagement and spreading understanding of Gelati’s spiritual, cultural and educational significance in Georgian society. studioMilou Singapore and Vietnam #Georgianartandculture #Georgianheritage UNESCO #livingheritage

Like many architectural studios, we find it challenging to allocate time to our website. However, with the invaluable support of our talented artists/collaborators, video and film-maker Valentin Milou, and photographer Fernando Janvier Urquijo, we've made progress. Below is a preview of our new landing page for the coming weeks, sharing a selection of beautifully combined images from cultural projects in France, Vietnam, and Singapore. With over two decades of buildings across Europe and Asia to upate, and an expanding heritage, public, and residential project portfolio, the website overhaul is going! A special acknowledgment goes to the talented young architect and designer, Menghua Yin, who is kindly giving extra time to support the task, with her trained eye for what works well and where. studioMilou Singapore and Vietnam #Frencharchitecture #gooddesign #valentinmilou #fernandojavierurquijo #architecture #architecturalphotography #nationalgallerysingapore #culturalprojects #urbandesign #jeanfrancoismilou #denzeen #architecturedaily https://lnkd.in/gk-BpF5e
