It has been an eventful and rewarding week for aquaculture research in Singapore, marking significant achievements for our team ! Here's a recap of the highlights: 1️⃣ New S$40M Funding for Agri-Food R&D and Translation On November 19, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade and Industry, Gan Kim Yong, announced the next phase of the Singapore Food Story (SFS) R&D Programme during the Singapore International Agri-Food Week. With S$40M dedicated to accelerating food innovation in urban agriculture, aquaculture, future foods, and food safety, we are thrilled to have been awarded funding for two impactful projects: - AquaGuard: Investigating innovative solutions for disease resilience in barramundi and shrimp through non-lethal heat shock, functional feed, and recombinant peptides. Partners: Adisseo, Vertical Oceans, Universiti Malaysia Terengganu, Peptobiotics, and Opal Resources Pte Ltd. - SALSA (Sustainable Aquafeed for Local Singaporean Aquaculture): Developing sustainable aquafeed solutions for local farming systems. Partners: A*STAR - Agency for Science, Technology and Research, and Century Aquaculture Pte Ltd. 2️⃣ Launch of the Singapore Aquaculture Plan (SAP) On November 19, Senior Minister of State for Sustainability and the Environment Poh-Koon Koh (Dr), unveiled the Singapore Aquaculture Plan (SAP) at the Asia-Pacific Agri-Food Innovation Summit. As a panel member in its development, I was honored to contribute to this year-long collaboration involving over 30 stakeholders. The SAP provides a strategic roadmap to make Singapore’s aquaculture sector more productive and sustainable. 🎥 Watch the SAP launch video. https://lnkd.in/gKMcSjqB 3️⃣ Sharing Insights at Singapore International Agri-Food Week On November 21, I had the privilege of presenting at the Singapore International Agri-Food Week, discussing our research on fish metabolism and strategies to reduce overfeeding for sustainable aquaculture. The event was an incredible platform for knowledge and a good opportunity to meet again some of the keynote speakers: Professor Ross Houston: Director of Genetics & Innovation, Benchmark Holdings plc. Professor Leo Marcelis: Chair of Horticulture and Product Physiology, Wageningen University & Research. Professor Jay Keasling: Philomathia Distinguished Professor of Alternative Energy, University of California, Berkeley. Professor David Cameron-Smith: Head of Nutrition, Singapore Institute for Food and Biotechnology Innovation (SIFBI).
