Engaging the community in Singapore, to accelerate towards zero waste and the circular economy.
About us
We are an NGO leading the drive towards zero waste in Singapore. We expose people to waste issues and inspire them to make everyday choices towards zero waste. We also aid Singapore in accelerating the shift towards zero waste and the shift to the circular economy. Our projects see us partnering with governmental agencies, the media, corporates and other NGOs on nation-wide campaigns such as the 'Bring Your Own' campaign, which aims to educate and encourage Singaporeans on bringing their own reusables to food and beverage establishments, and to decrease the use of single-use plastic disposables in Singapore. ZWSG also gives presentations, talks and workshops at corporate venues and schools. Find Us! Yesterday, Zero Waste Singapore held a small sustainability fair for Ubisoft Singapore and it was a beautiful experience for both the participants and ourselves! Grateful to Ubisoft for granting us this opportunity to bring people together and show what the sustainable sector is all about. For this fair, we collaborated with a few like-minded partners — The Sustainability Project, A Million Books, My Naked Bar, D2L.sg, Semula Pte Ltd — to share their organizations' environmental agendas and showcase their work, whether through marketplace booths or workshops. We love putting together education and fun to encourage more people to be conscious about their own zero waste lifestyle. It's not something we can achieve immediately, but it's also not something we should overlook. It can start with just a small action. 🌎 We look forward to having more events like this. If you're interested to hold something meaningful like this for your organisation, contact us! #ZeroWasteSG #BYOSingapore #SustainabilityFair #ZeroWaste #Sustainableliving #StrengthinNumbers #GoGreenSG

Thank you for having us! It was refreshing to share our work wrt the state-citizen relationship 🤝
I was joined by some excellent speakers for a panel on ‘Shared citizen-state relationships for environmental governance’ as part of Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy's 5-day long Festival of Ideas. The discussion centered around the concept of co-production. Dr. Sophie Yates argued that a deeper look into the who, when, what, where and why of co-production is needed to understand shared responsibilities by citizens and states around service provision. Ms. Huileng T. brought this issue closer to home by highlighting the efforts by Zero Waste SG in enabling citizen participation in the recycling ecosystem in Singapore and viewing recycling as part of the efforts towards a circular economy rather than in isolation. Dr. Corinne Ong brought in the social value of co-production and the role of community networks and social capital in enabling co-production. Looking forward to engaging in further dialogue on the prospects of co-production for environmental governance. #FestivalofIdeas #coproduction #environmentalgovernance

It has been a while since we did a fundraising project and we are happy to support BYO Singapore (by Zero Waste Singapore ) through inspiring BYO action! From today until 14th Sept, tag us when you BYO (bottle/cup/bag). $0.50 will be donated to BYO Singapore and we aim to inspire 1,000 (unique) individuals to make this small change! If you wish to donate directly, you can do so here: https://lnkd.in/gqNV9Ebd Of course, if you BYO more than once, please continue to tag us so that we can inspire more to join this campaign ☺️☺️ All the experiences will be added to our BYO map by The Sustainability Project and BYO Singapore will engage the establishments you’ve featured as BYO Supporters and share their work. We hope through this mini campaign we can inspire more people to BYO and encourage small changes along the way 💚💚 #thesustainabilityproject #byo #reuse #lesswaste

After a long wait, we finally have news that Beverage Container Return Scheme (BCRS) will be pushed back to April 2026. In preparation for this roll out, let's take a look at what was announced and what we can expect in the coming year. While we are hopeful that the launch of the scheme will increase the nation's recycling rate for plastics and metals, it is also important for us to make habitual changes and reduce excessive consumption in the first place, on top of post-consumption solutions (e.g. recycling). BCRS is just the first step for implementing Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) on packaging waste. Moving forward, we hope to see more solutions that encourage producers to be more careful in their product design (increased recycled content, products designed to reuse, etc) as well as ensuring circularity of their own products. ♻️ #BCRS #Depositrefundscheme #EPR #Packagingwaste #Recycling #Circulareconomy #SortitOut

Sustainability Spotlight: MUJI (Singapore) Pte Ltd and ZWSG Working Together! ♻️ We're thrilled to celebrate and spotlight our partnership with Muji in their ongoing sustainability journey! 🌍 Muji has been generously contributing part of the funds collected from their paper bag charge to support our initiatives. Late last year, we used some of these funds to help Muji further its sustainabilty journey at its global flagship store at Plaza Singapura. Together, we've achieved some fantastic milestones. Check it out! Together, we’re making strides towards a greener future. Drop by Muji, check out the recycling corner, and participate in our upcoming events to learn more about how you can contribute to sustainability. 🙌 Let’s continue to support Muji in their sustainability journey and make every small action count. 💚 #MujiSustainability #ZeroWasteSG #choosereusablesnotdisposables #Recycling #Sustainable #CommunityEngagement #Collaboration

Hello! We turned 9 recently (the date Zero Waste Singapore got incorporated was 13 Jul 2024, to be exact) and we just wanted to thank all our partners for making us who we are today! 🎂💚🌟

Doing up our End-of-FY update to the Board (yes I have bosses too!) and while we're still in the midst of getting our books audited, I'm done(ish) putting together the photos capturing our milestones, events and partners, and thought to share them here too 💚 Incidentally I'm starting my 4th (!) year at Zero Waste Singapore today and it's a good feeling to look back and commemorate some wins, some losses and appreciation all around for everything that happened this year: 🤟 Launched a door-to-door recyclables collection pilot for the seniors at Mei Ling St under our ♻ Let's Recycle Together ♻ movement, in partnership with Asia Pacific Breweries Singapore (Part of The HEINEKEN Company) and the team Ailsa Khee Audrey Tan Tricia Ow 🤟 Partnering up with other corporates like GREAT EASTERN, Salesforce and Deloitte which sent their folks to pitch in for the collection too 🙌 Angeline Ang 🤟Launched a recycling corner at MUJI (Singapore) Pte Ltd flagship store at Plaza Sing to further our ♻ Let's Recycle Together ♻ movement, and show that waste segregation and clean stream recycling works! Shoutout to our recycler partners Cloop and Sembcorp Industries Ltd. Li Nah K. Yin Ling Tan Megan Lim Si Hui 🤟 We then got invited by Global Citizen to put up a booth at Coldplay's pre-concert activities when they came to town, allowing us to continue our push for the #reuse culture and grow the 👜 BYO Singapore ☕ movement to even international audiences. 🤟 Somewhere along the way we even managed to get IPC status so now our donations are eligible for tax-deductions. Grateful to Charities Unit Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth (MCCY) for your trust in Zero Waste SG's accountability and transparency practices. 🤟 Finally after going at it for a while, we launched our ♻Sort it Out ♻movement at this year's Go Green SG by the Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment, Singapore. This symbolises our renewed and refined focus on waste segregation at source, to reduce recycling contamination and reduce the amount of trash heading for Semakau. We really hope to do more on this front! So thanks everyone for your support along the way and here's to stronger and new partnerships in the new FY 💚

Happy 1 year to Singapore’s Supermarket Bag Charge Regulations! 🎉🌍 Around a year ago today, Singapore took a big step towards a greener future with the implementation of the disposable carrier bag charge! ⭐️ According to the the major supermarkets, shoppers took home fewer plastic bags from supermarkets after the charge was implemented – as much as 80% fewer plastic bags have been taken! This positive trend is a testament to the power of collective action in creating a greener future. ♻️ But let's not stop there! We can further reduce plastic waste by embracing the Bring Your Own (BYO) movement, especially Bring Your Own Bag (BYOB)! 🛍️💚 What's next? We're excited to hear how much plastic has been saved thanks to the charge, and how the charge has been used! Supermarkets are required to make this information public by December 2024, so stay tuned for updates! 🔍 #PlasticFreeSG #BYOB #Sustainability #ZeroWasteSG #PlasticBagCharge #BringYourOwnBag

📢 Calling all eco-warriors! Are you Team BYO or Team SIO? 📢 Team BYO: You carry your reusable water bottle everywhere and say NO to single-use plastics (or single-use anything!)! 👎🥤 ️Team SIO: You're a sorting superstar, making sure recyclables get a second life! ♻️ The truth is, we NEED both! ✌️ Plastic-free living starts with reusables, but even reusables eventually become waste. That's where sorting comes in! Curious to learn how to be a BYO & SIO champion?
