In designing memorial spaces, we encounter a remarkable openness towards natural materials. Perhaps this is because, in the most challenging moments, when one reflects on who they are and who they have been with, nature feels like the natural place for this "meditation."
Shouldn't we, then, strive to incorporate natural environments into our everyday lives, encouraging a connection with our inner selves and those around us?
I believe that even contemporary memorial architecture does not fully harness the potential of natural materials and their ability to help alleviate stress and tension.
Even though during ceremonies we regularly remind ourselves "dust you are and to dust you shall return," we are still hesitant to take this dust and use it as clay plasters to cover our interiors. Yet, it is precisely clay that can best regulate indoor humidity to the most comfortable level for humans, thus transforming the entire atmosphere.
