Tirupati Temple Stampede Live Updates: Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan to visit Tirumala temple shortly

Chief minister Chandrababu Naidu on Thursday visited Tirupati temple where a stampede left six devotees dead. The CM met Tirumala trust officials and sought information on arrangements and crowd-control measures taken up by the temple administration.

"We are planning to give Rs 25 lakh to the family of the people who have been deceased. It is a sad story, we can't replace life with anything else but even though to support the family, we have announced Rs 25 lakh (compensation)," said Andhra Pradesh Minister Angani Satya Prasad.

"There are 30 people who are admitted to SVIMS Tirupati, they are out of danger. We have talked to the medical team. The CM and the state's Health minister are coming here. I am sorry on behalf of TTD for such an incident. No such incidents will ever happen in future. If there is involvement of any officer in all this, we will take strict action against him once we get the report. We will not spare anyone. We have a review meeting after visiting the patients," said TTD Board Member Bhanu Prakash Reddy.

“It’s a sad incident. It happened because a huge crowd gathered there. Arrangements were made. CM N Chandrababu Naidu will visit there to inspect the situation. Injured are being treated. We will try to extend our help to the families of the deceased,” said TDP leader Prem Kumar Jain.

“It’s sad and unfortunate. I pray for the injured’s good health. Everyone knew about the number of devotees who would visit. Why did Andhra Pradesh Police not make arrangements? Nothing like this happened under Congress government's rule,” said Congress MP Pramod Tiwari on Tirupati Stampede

"In YSRCP regime, such things never happened. Every year for special days the crowd is expected. There should be a proper review of the arrangements ahead of special days. BR Naidu should resign. Public says they don't give even water as arrangements, Chandrababu is going there for public stunt," said YSRCP senior leader and former Endowment minister Vellampalli Srinivas on Tirupati Stampede.

"Pained by the unfortunate incident of the stampede in the Tirupati temple. My sincere condolences to the families of the deceased. May the injured recover at the earliest. I am deeply shocked by the stampede incident at the Tirupati Vishnu Niwasam ticket counter. I pray for the souls of the devotees who lost their lives in this unfortunate incident to rest in peace. I wish the injured a speedy recovery," Amit Shah posted on X.

In a social media post on X, the Prime Minister's Office wrote, "Pained by the stampede in Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh. My thoughts are with those who have lost their near and dear ones. I pray that the injured recover soon. The AP Government is providing all possible assistance to those affected: PM Narendra Modi."

Andhra Pradesh chief minister Chandrababu Naidu has scheduled a review meeting on Thursday following the tragic stampede at Tirupati's Lord Venkateswara temple, which claimed six lives and left around 40 injured. According to a Telugu Desam Party (TDP) spokesperson, CM Naidu will also meet with the families of the deceased later in the day.

On the stampede at Vishnu Nivasam during ticket collection for offering prayers last night, Tirupati collector Dr. S. Venkateswar says, "Elaborate arrangements have been made for Vaikunth Ekadasi this year by TTD and the District Administration. A sufficient number of Police personnel were deployed at all the ticket counters (9) in Tirupati and (1) in Tirumala. We kept holding areas as well. At this particular location, there was some miscommunication over the opening of the gate. An unfortunate incident occurred."


"The CM also has spoken to all of us. The CM is coming here to visit the patients and to review the situation. The situation was brought under control at 9.30pm last night. At all queue counters, ticket distribution was completed last night around 1 am.This year additional forces have been deployed in Tirumala. 5 persons died in the stampede and one person due to illness.Post-mortem of bodies is underway and will be completed soon. till now 1.2 lakh tickets have been sold," said Tirupati collector.

On health condition of persons injured in last night's stampede incident, Director of SVIMS-Sri Padmavathi Medical College, Prof Kumar says, "A few patients have some fractures, rest all have injuries to muscles/skin.19 people are under treatment here. By this evening most of them will be ready to be discharged. He (CM) will be in Tirupati between noon to 3 pm."

Tamil Nadu chief minister M K Stalin on Thursday condoled the death of six persons in a stampede in Andhra Pradesh's Tirupati, saying he was "deeply saddened" over the incident. According to Tirupati district collector S Venkateswar, one of the victims hailed from Tamil Nadu's Salem.

"Deeply saddened by the tragic stampede at Tirupati, which has claimed innocent lives, including those from Tamil Nadu. My heartfelt condolences to the families who lost their loved ones in this unfortunate incident. Wishing the injured a swift recovery. #TirupatiStampede," Stalin said on a post on 'X.'

Prem kumar Jain, TDP National Spokesperson, says, "The unfortunate incident in the Tirumala Tirupati Temple claimed the lives of 6 devotees and injured around 40. I pray to god to give peace to the departed souls. Measures are being taken to ensure such incidents do not happen again. CM Chandrababu Naidu has also called a review meeting. He will also visit the temple in a short while and take cognisance of the situation."

"People had gathered on the occasion of 'baikunth ekadashi' and proper arrangements had been made to accommodate the rush. Out of the six deceased, one woman is believed to be from Tamil Nadu and an ex-gratia will be provided to the kin of the deceased. I want to reassure everyone that we will ensure such incidents will not happen again... Our government will provide all the necessary assistance for treatment," said Jain.

The Vaikunthadwara Darshan is a highly revered event, coinciding with the Vaikuntha Ekadashi festival. Devotees believe this darshan offers a glimpse of the divine gates of heaven (Vaikuntha). The festival attracts millions, with attendance peaking at 2–3 lakh on key days. Despite its spiritual significance, the incident highlights the urgent need for better crowd management during such large-scale events.

Devotees expressed frustration with the token distribution process, stating that TTD’s post-COVID protocols were more effective in managing crowds.The current system, overwhelmed by the sheer number of devotees, failed to ensure orderly distribution, leading to overcrowding.

Witnesses reported insufficient police presence and criticised the lack of crowd control measures at the gates.

Among the victims, Mallika, a devotee from Tamil Nadu, succumbed to her injuries en route to Ruia Hospital. Three others died during treatment at Ruia, and two more passed away at SVIMS hospital.

Thousands of devotees had been waiting since early morning to collect their tokens. Witnesses reported that the overcrowded queues turned disorderly as people rushed to the gates, unable to manage the long wait. The lack of proper crowd control measures added to the tragedy.

The incident occurred around 8pm at Vishnu Nivasam, Srinivasam, and Padmavati Park as gates opened for an unwell devotee. The chaos erupted after the gate was opened to allow an unwell devotee to exit the queue, prompting a sudden surge of devotees.

A stampede at Tirupati's Lord Venkateswara temple on Wednesday evening claimed six lives and injured over 30 devotees. The chaos unfolded during the distribution of Vaikuntha Dwara Sarva Darshan tokens as a massive turnout overwhelmed the crowd management system.
