Today is World Suicide Prevention Day. In the Caribbean, mental health is often brushed aside, but we know every life matters. Through First Aid for Mental Health (FA4MH), we can all play a role in supporting those around us. The C.A.L.M. approach helps us take action: Connect: Reach out and let them know you care. Ask: "Are you having thoughts of suicide?" Listen: Without judgment, just be there to listen. Motivate: Encourage them to seek professional help or lean on trusted support systems. With FA4MH, we can become better equipped to support our communities, save lives, and break the silence around mental health. Joining with the Engineering Department University of the West Indies, St. Augustine Campus, along with other professionals in launching an initiative that holds the promise of transforming our world. This launch was a commitment to a vision where engineering serves the needs of all people, especially those who have been marginalized. By focusing on local resources and sustainable practicesto develop solutions that empower communities and provide them with the tools they need to thrive.
