Did you know that people with albinism are at a higher risk of contracting skin cancer? This risk is higher in the face of climate change, which is increasing ultraviolet (UV) radiation. JOIN THE CAMPAIGN: To reinstate sun blockers (or sunscreen) on the World Health Organization’s (WHO) List of Essential Medications. Your support will make a huge impact. Our Project Manager, Annabahati Gwacha, had the opportunity to attend the National Organization for Albinism and Hypopigmentation - NOAH Conference 2024 this year. Read about her experience stepping beyond Africa for the first time and the differences and similarities she learned about in the North American albinism movement vs the one in Africa. From innovative community-driven fundraising to inclusive family-oriented programming, she talks about her learnings and how these could further inform how we support individuals with albinism here in Africa. Africa Albinism Network reposted this
I can think of nothing more egregious than the level of discrimination and brutality faced by people with albinism. There is now an alarming rise in skin cancer due to increased UV exposure from climate change that is claiming the lives of young people with albinism. Proud to be supporting this important #climatejustice campaign led by the Africa Albinism Network to make sunscreen available to people with albinisim.
The Africa Albinism Network (AAN) has launched a petition urging the World Health Organization to classify sunscreen as an essential medicine. This initiative aims to make sunscreen more affordable and accessible for people with albinism, who face heightened risks of skin cancer due to increased UV exposure from climate change. CBM Global proudly supports this campaign, recognising sunscreen as a life-saving necessity. Join us in advocating for this critical change to protect and improve the lives of people with albinism: https://lnkd.in/g84xmDcf #ClimateJustice #InclusiveClimateJustice

The 2024 AAN Women’s Learning Forum was a groundbreaking event, bringing together fierce, passionate #women impacted by #albinism to reflect on leadership, resilience, and personal growth. To capture the impact of this forum on participants, our research partner, Mothering & Albinism interviewed one of the participants Gwenlisa Mushonga, the founder of Albinism Alive Initiative in Zimbabwe.
