Gender Equity is key to a fair transition! As #COP29 draws to a close, we’re reminded that excluding women in climate action is a half-measure. Amplifying women’s voices ensures true inclusivity. Join SHE Changes Climate and advocate for a #FairTransitionForAll. #SHEChangesClimate

About us
Registered 2022 in Uganda, we are dedicated to developing the human interest to observe basic natural laws and adopt the behaviour of living in harmony with nature. We seek a future where there is a balanced relationship between humans and the various natural systems on which they depend in such a way that all the components are accorded a proper degree of sustainability. Over the years our work has been in diverse fields including climate change, circular economy, disaster risk reduction, sustainable agriculture, and renewable energy activism. MISSION: Our mission is to research and provide solutions to pressing environmental issues through youth empowerment, skills development and public education. We work directly with local communities to reduce the vulnerability of groups that are at risk to climate impacts such as children, youth and women who have a comparatively less adaptive capacity due to social and structural inequalities. VISION: We work to create a world whereby conserving the natural environment will be the number one priority of the masses. GAYO seeks to become an extensive organisation that guides individual conscious choices in promoting sustainability and reducing the vulnerability of communities to natural hazards and socio-economic risks. We are incorporated according to the laws of Ghana. Contact us: uganda@greenafricayouth.org

On November 14, 2024, we hosted an impactful training session for Environmental Health Officers in the Greater Accra Region at Miklin Hotel. The event focused on equipping participants with the knowledge and skills to manage waste sustainably, reduce methane emissions, and promote clean air. 💡 Highlights from the Day: * Insights on methane gas emissions and effective reduction strategies. * Practical techniques for waste segregation, recycling, and composting. * In-depth discussions on alternatives to incineration and advocating for anti-pollution practices. This training was a crucial step in empowering frontline officers to champion environmentally sound practices and protect public health. The trainers included Allison Felix Hughes, Ph.D from Afri-SET WEST, Mr. Nurokinan Chimbar (ACIB. MSc. MSc. Dip. ITIL. BA) from Safisana, and the team from UrbanBetter. We also had a presentation on our Zero Waste Cities Project by Jacob Johnson Attakpah(Manager, Zero Waste Cities Project) 🌱 Together, we are making strides towards a cleaner, more sustainable Accra! #EnvironmentalHealth #WasteManagement #CleanAir #Sustainability #GreenAfricaYouthOrganization #ClimateAction Clean Air Fund Global Methane Hub UMI Fund GAIA (Global Alliance for Incinerator Alternatives) LA DADE-KOTOPON MUNICIPAL ASSEMBLY Green Africa Youth Organization (GAYO)-Uganda Green Africa Youth Organisation (GAYO)Botswana GAYO Eco-Club Campus Chapters (GECCC)

One Week into #COP29: Where Are We Now? It’s been a week since #COP29 began. Are we any closer to solving the climate crisis? The discussions on #Waste Management: key contributors to CO2 and methane emissions, demand urgent attention. Are decision-makers addressing these issues, or are they being overlooked yet again? When will #ClimateJustice and #JustTransition take center stage in global climate discussions? Will policymakers take bold steps to ensure that the voices of vulnerable communities, workers, and youth are prioritized in decision-making processes? How are we progressing on #Financing Grassroots Action and Youth Involvement? :When will we see the funds move to where they are most needed? Have states reached an agreement on a high-ambition finance goal that meets the needs of developing economies? Where are the actionable National #Climate Plans? , 1.5°C-aligned climate plans that are supported by real investments? The urgency to publish and implement these plans cannot be overstated. Are we truly advancing the critical conversations from this COP29 Azerbaijan or are we already deferring solutions to the next one? @COP30 At GAYO, we are on the ground at #COP29 in Azerbaijan, driving discussions on #YouthInclusion, #ClimateFinance, #ClimateJustice, and following up on Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) for Ghana, Uganda and Botswana . Let’s ask the tough questions. Let’s hold leaders accountable.
