We are delighted to share that ACWA has been awarded the contract to deliver Sturminster Marshall Nitrate Reduction Plant for Wessex Water. The £3.5M investment into the Nitrate Reduction at Sturminster Marshall will not only improve the quality of the water but more importantly it will help to provide increased resilience and sufficiency of supply. Dominic Hurd, ACWA Services Managing Director commented: “This is an exciting time for ACWA, and we are pleased that we can bring our Nitreat process technology solution to Wessex Water to help them solve the increasing demands of meeting the ever-tightening quality standards as set by the DWI.”

Today, we take the time to remember the courage and sacrifice of those who fought for peace and our freedom. We also honour those, past and present, who served and continue to serve in our armed forces. We wish to take this opportunity to celebrate our very own Paul Barber who has received the King’s Coronation Medal. The King’s Coronation Medal is awarded to all serving members of the Armed Forces, including Cadet Forces and the Emergency Services on completion of over five years’ service. Out with the old, in with the new.... We had a great time today starting up this AquaPyr Ultra Low Waste Filter - Model 25. The operators are excited to take the old, frequently plugging, sand filters offline. The new AquaPyr system is non-backwashing and cleans itself in just 16 seconds - about 50 times faster than the old sand filters. The Model 25 also produces minimal return flow to the plant - less than 1 gallon per cleaning cycle. This will be hundreds of times less return waste to the plant.

Process Technology: AquaPyr: A deep pile cloth filter for remote rural treatment works requiring tertiary solids removal where backwash volumes are an issue. Tertiary Solids Removal (TSR) on small rural sites is growing in demand as phosphorus and iron consents are applied. For these smaller, remote works, additional consents, new or tightened, can lead to the overall upgrade requirements which can be difficult to execute due to economic viability and process challenges related to the low flow rates found at facilities with lower population equivalents. These challenges can include power availability and the need for site power upgrades, land availability and the need to compulsory purchase, and the hydraulic capacity of the site and the need for attenuation to cope with the backwash volumes from traditional TSR solutions. The AquaPyr filter from ACWA Services has been designed to negate these CAPEX upgrade costs and issues as far as possible but still deliver a cost-effective, robust solution in providing tertiary solids removal for remote rural treatment works ensuring discharge consents are met.
