Harmed by gambling, committed fraud, went to prison. Determined to help others * all views are my own

🎥 Filmed a little earlier in the Autumn, this video from GambleAware that now sits front and centre on their website highlights the risks that can come with gambling and the harm that could follow. Huge credit to the team at GambleAware that filmed it in a little studio in Whitechapel and edited what must have been seven hours plus of footage down into such a powerful two minute montage. Proud to have taken a small part in it, but the truth is there's an endless list of people that could just as well have had their own version of an all too familiar story shown here. Bless each and every one of them, many of whom I'm now lucky to know as friends and who revisit those past difficult times from their own lives over and over again in an effort to help others. The community of lived experience stands strong in trying to raise awareness of gambling harm and to support others who may be experiencing it. Whatever happens, those people will always be there to help as best they can. They get it, they relate to it and they have resilience beyond belief to keep on going - chances are you won't find that anywhere else. If you think you might be experiencing harm yourself, or are concerned about a family member, do as my now good friend tracy says at the end of the video, pick up the phone and start your own journey of getting support and getting better. • We are honoured to announce Ara's involvement in the Baton of Hope UK Tour 2025 Baton of Hope UK! This inspiring initiative is more than a journey—it's a movement toward a zero-suicide society. Thanks to an invitation from Rachel Brett at Torbay Council Torbay Council, our South West Engagement Manager Pauline Pauline Strachan and Plymouth Community Lead Chaz Charanjeet Singh have already begun brainstorming ideas to bring this event to life. Pauline will also serve on the planning committee, helping shape an initiative dedicated to suicide prevention. At Ara, we believe in the power of collaboration. Together with multi-agency partners, we're committed to building holistic support systems for communities, ensuring that gambling harm is part of this critical conversation. This is more than an event—it's a legacy of hope, resilience, and shared strength. Learn more about Ara: www.recovery4all.co.uk #suicideprevention #batonofhope #hopeforall #communitysupport #ara

  • Grateful to Wynne Construction - C Wynne & Sons Ltd for hosting Rob Parker, our Community Engagement Manager, to raise awareness about gambling harms. As the first construction company in Wales to join Ara’s Workplace Charter, Wynne is helping us build stronger, more supportive communities. 💙

Supporting our site teams through gambling related harm awareness talks 🙏 A huge thank you to Rob Parker, community engagement manager with Ara Recovery For All for delivering such an insightful and honest talk that related to his own personal experience, during a recent visit to our Sunnyside Wellness Village #Bridgend for Linc Cymru and Pontllanfraith for Caerphilly County Borough Council projects. Wynne Construction is proud to be the first construction company in Wales who has signed up to Ara’s Workplace Charter, as part of their work as the national provider for Wales, and members of the National Gambling Support Network. These visits, follow on from talks given by Matt L. to our site operatives across North Wales earlier this year, giving all our site teams the opportunity to understand the impact of gambling related harm. ARA has identified that people working in the construction sector represent a significant proportion of people at risk by the effects of gambling harms and its effect on mental health. Thank you so much to Rob, the site managers and site teams for their time and for completing the screening questionnaires. #GambleAware #SupportingRecovery #CommunitySupport #Construction

  • At Ara, we’re humbled by the creativity and resilience of those we support. One of our residents has beautifully captured the magic of the season in their poem, A Christmas Ditty. As they write: "Treat thy neighbour as if a king, So much joy and happiness you can bring." This heartfelt piece is a reminder that Christmas is a time for warmth, connection, and renewal. At Ara, we strive to embody these values year-round through our housing support and community services. We’d love to hear your reflections on this wonderful poem. How are you sharing the joy of Christmas this year? From all of us at Ara, wishing you peace, light, and happiness this holiday season. • We’re thrilled to share the success of our cooking groups, which have been running since November 2023! Through these sessions, 53 clients in recovery have learned essential cooking skills, built confidence, and connected with others on similar journeys. Led by our amazing facilitator Lorna, these classes are about so much more than just cooking. They create structure, routine, and a supportive environment that helps combat isolation and promote well-being. Here’s what our clients have to say: “I’d only ever eaten ready meals before, but now I’ve cooked from scratch for the first time. Lorna’s support has truly changed my life.” – MB “I was hesitant to join, but each week lifts my mood. The group is friendly, and I feel like I belong.” – HC “In my addiction, I lost the skill to cook for myself. Reconnecting with that has helped me feel independent and excited again.” – AG Thank you to Lorna for creating such a welcoming and life-changing space each week. Your passion and dedication mean the world to all of us! #RecoveryForAll #CookingForWellbeing #CommunitySupport #AddictionRecovery #LivedExperience #AraRecoveryForAll
