Last weekend our Axiom Architects LLP London, Lewes and Exeter offices met up for our annual architectural study Trip. Lyon 2024! A beautiful, human scale city, with a mixture of historical and contemporary architecture. The trip is a great tradition, and opportunity for the other offices to socialise, learn about another city, and enjoy the local 🍷 🍺 🎶 We look forward to next year! #architecture #design

Hot on the heels of our recent planning success at 5 Strand in London Axiom Architects LLP have recently had further city centre success in Edinburgh and Glasgow.   Working with @Box Consultants for Klarent Hospitality our Exeter office have been hard at work delivering planning permissions at the Edinburgh Caledonian and Glasgow DoubleTree by Hilton. Both located in sensitive city centre conservation areas the designs have been carefully crafted to respond to their unique contexts; delivering high quality, contemporary designs that complement the existing hotels. We're thrilled to announce Axiom architects recently achieved unanimous planning consent to create an innovative, sustainable and smart hub by Premier Inn hotel below The Brunswick Centre in Bloomsbury, central London. The permission paves the way to transform an underutilised, double-storey, subterranean car park beneath the Grade II listed building into a cutting-edge 207-bedroom hotel. Established lighting technology which provides a spectrum of light following the human circadian rhythm will be used to illuminate all the hotel bedrooms, reception and communal guest spaces. Guests will enter the hotel from a dedicated entrance on the ground-floor of the shopping centre. The development will be the first time we will operate a hub by Premier Inn hotel in this way and follows extensive testing of circadian lighting technology in our trading estate of hub by Premier Inn's. The development involves lowering a floor of the existing double-storey basement car park space to create the necessary floor-to-ceiling heights for the hotel. The lowered sections will remain in situ within the building resulting in substantial reductions in embodied carbon in constructing the new hotel. Great to see James Mitchell Partner for our London office will be on the expert panel for Retrofit and Conservation. As a practice we have completed multiple retrofit projects, converting existing commercial and / or listed buildings in to hotels by intelligently adapting existing structures. We look forward to contributing, and hearing about the themes and research that come from the panel discussions.
