📌 Just under 10 million people (17.7%) in England and Wales are living with a disability, and in parts of the country the rate of people with a disability is above one in five. 📌 That's important for all employers to understand, but is even more important in social housing where we know 29% of residents have a disability. 📌 National Housing Federation EDI data tells us that despite that, just 9% of the sector's workforce has a disability or a long-term health condition, and even fewer in senior roles. 📌 Not all disabilities are visible, and not everyone is comfortable disclosing their health status or where they may have caring responsibilities at home. 📌 That means housing providers don't have a clear idea how representative they are on disability, and may not have the diverse voices in the room required to make the best decisions for their customers. 📌 This was one of the concerns which came through strongly in our recent research on diversity and inclusion in the housing sector, with contributors contrasting good progress on gender and ethnic diversity with the need to step up on disability. 💒 Read what housing sector leaders had to say, and some of the ways they are trying to improve, in the full report linked below: https://lnkd.in/e3hVTSSe 🏰 Castle Peak Group 🏰
