The Department for Education launched their curriculum and assessment review. As young people working or volunteering for Teach the Future we attended the DfE’s curriculum and assessment roadshow events, the lacking presence of other young people in attendance was obvious. Alongside the lengthy survey for evidence submissions, it became clear that young people’s views were not being prioritised… So sparked by Teach the Future, the Youth Shadow Panel was launched!! The Shadow Panel, made up of 12 young panellists, will reflect the activities and processes of that of the government’s panel. What if school wasn’t: 'boring’ ‘hell’ ‘stressful’. There are some positives about the current system too… we want to know what’s working and what needs to be changed! Encourage young people to be involved in reimagining how school and education can serve us better. Share with your youth networks!! And the best bit - the Youth Shadow Panel is accepting evidence via not only our short survey but also through DMs, art or even voice notes! Open until the 10th of January 2025! https://lnkd.in/evuAXx3q In collaboration with: The Scouts, National Union of Students (UK), Young Citizens, I have a voice CIC, National Youth Agency, Save the Children UK, The Duke of Edinburgh's Award, UK Youth, RECLAIM. We were lucky to have TRACI LEWIS come and run a 2 hour Green Careers session as part of our 2050 Climate Group Climate Action and Leadership Programme. I joined the Catalyse Change CIC summit as part of the 2023 cohort. It was such a lovely full circle moment to be able to connect with Traci again and play a part in delivering this session alongside her. Thank you for a brilliant evening!

🌱 What are the key Green Career Opportunities? How do you market yourself for them? And what Green Skills do you need? 🌱 Last week, I ran a two-hour Catalyse Change CIC workshop for over 60 inspiring Scottish students as part of the fantastic 2050 Climate Group Leadership Programme. Together, we explored the pathways to building impactful green careers. The workshop focused on three key areas: 1️⃣ How to Get Your First Green Job e.g. - Explore specialist sustainability and mainstream job sites. - Make the most of incredible online learning resources like EAUC and IEMA - Leverage LinkedIn to network and boost your professional visibility. - Pursue formal education (technical qualifications) and specialised courses to grow your green skills. 2️⃣ Transitioning Existing Roles into Greener Paths - Deepen your expertise through ongoing training and certifications. - Build a strong professional network of like-minded changemakers. - Stay informed: Follow sustainability thought leaders, attend conferences, and read reports like the IPCC findings, UN SDGs, and industry updates on LinkedIn. 3️⃣ Make Any Job a Climate Job - Identify opportunities for quick wins, such as reducing resource and energy use. - Set up or join a Green Team within your organisation. - Engage employees, suppliers, and customers through storytelling and meaningful climate conversations. 🔑 Green Skills for Career Growth: We explored insights from the latest LinkedIn Global Green Skills Report 2024 and other recent research to identify the fastest-growing green skills—technical and soft. Check out my latest Catalyse Change blog if you’d like to know more about these: https://lnkd.in/e2Ddyre2 🎨 Different Shades of Green: We discussed how climate jobs can be viewed as "different shades of green," which helps to categorise career objectives, how to access them and the skill requirements. The students particularly enjoyed the practical and reflective activities to help boost their confidence, motivation and skills for pursuing green careers. Working with this group of future leaders was truly inspiring, and I hope to collaborate with 2050 Climate Group again. Thank you for having me! 🌍 #greenskills #greencareers #careerdevelopment #Linkedin #sustainability #climatecareers

🎄Fancy some Local Shopping & Networking Cheer this Christmas? 💚🎄What started as a gloomy, rainy afternoon in Bristol became an inspiring day full of festive vibes, locally made treasures & meaningful connections. 🌟 🎄Starting with delicious Indian lunch at Nadu, followed by local Christmas shopping —picking up cards and gifts from local artists and makers at Stokes Croft and Sparks in Broadmead. Supporting local producers and businesses always feels important this time of year. I didn't make it to St Nick Market, but that is always a Christmas shopping must, too!🎄 💚Waterstones café provided shelter from the rain, where I met my mentee, Binta, in-person for the first time. Over hot chocolate, we practised our networking pitches before heading to the Bristol Green Mingle at the Station. 🎄Binta was a networking natural! I loved hearing her confidently share her passion for sustainability and her experiences with Catalyse Change CIC. I was very proud of her; she made such a great impression. I'd love her to help with our marketing next year! 🎄The Green Mingle focused on one-minute pitches from local enterprises. Many asked for their crowdfunders to be shared amongst the community. So, if you want to support some local impactful causes, check out Black to Nature and Avon Needs Trees. Do post them and any others I've missed in the comments here. I will be pleased to share them with my network.🙏 🙏Thank you, Binta Barrie, Lizzi Testani, Vicki Woolley, Bristol Climate & Nature Partnership, and vibrant Bristol itself, for a wonderful (if wet) day! There’s nothing like this city’s energy to brighten the winter gloom. ⭐➡️I do recommend a visit soon if you are planning a Christmas shopping outing - I didn't explore too much in the rain - but there appear to be lots of street food, markets, rolling skating and fun fair attractions in Broadmead and Castle Park right now too.🎄💚🎄💚😊🙏 #SupportLocal #Sustainability #Networking #Bristol #GreenCareers #ChristmasShopping #ShopLocalChrismas #ShopLocal #Mentoring

After 6 amazing years I am taking a year off from my voluntary work with Catalyse Change CIC. It's been an incredible journey which I am so grateful for being on, where I've been so lucky to meet and work with an amazing array of people and being involved in impactful work. From: 🤝 Meeting TRACI LEWIS at the Green Mingle back in 2018 and hearing her vision for empowering the next generation of changemakers, 💡 To supporting the delivery of talks, workshops and online careers sessions, 💥 To being a mentor to 7 different, unique and brilliant young women, 🌱 To supporting the organisation strategically on the Advisory Board alongside other kind and brilliant humans. I've learnt so much through this journey and it's definitely not the end. As I said in an email to Traci, I will never stop being an ambassador for Catalyse Change and championing this vision. For now, I'm taking some time out to focus on my other mentoring work with people transitioning into sustainability from other careers, my Trustee work, my role on the Steering Committee for Climate Reframe as well as my day job at 3ADAPT! Thank you Traci and all the wonderful people I've met along the way through Catalyse Change - there are way too many to list here but I will still try! ⭐As we conclude our 2024 Mentoring Programme, we're thrilled to reflect on its incredible impact on our mentees this year. The feedback makes clear how valuable mentorship can be for personal and professional development. ➡️We have included a couple of comments below. You can read more on our blog. https://lnkd.in/evyXs7D9 💚 "This was my first time working with a mentor. The experience is valuable as it makes me talk to someone who gives me quality guidance and fresh insights. Having someone to bounce ideas off and get feedback from is super helpful, and it definitely gave me confidence."— Annika 💚 "A key learning for me from my mentorship experience has been working with my own abilities and strengths, especially as an individual who is neurodivergent. I urge everyone to consider mentorship as the perspective and self-belief it has given me is invaluable."— Ellis 💚To everyone who participated - both mentees and mentors - thank you for making this year’s programme such a success. Your dedication, openness, and drive are inspiring. 🙏Many thanks also to OneUpOneDown for their support and patience as we pilotted their innovative mentoring software for the first time. Also thanks to Rhian at Women in Sustainability Network for again providing excellent training for our mentors. ➡️Calling all mentees & mentors! If you’d like to share your feedback to highlight your experience in our blog or social media, we’d love to hear from you! 🎓 Celebrating Our 2024 Cohort and Online Graduation! 🌍Last night, we said congratulations and farewell to our incredible Catalyse Change CIC 2024 cohort in a heartfelt online graduation ceremony—a celebration of their achievements, resilience, and transformative journeys. 💚I had initially been concerned, as the recent in-person graduation in Bristol was unforgettable, that an online event might feel a bit flat in comparison. However, with catalysts joining us from across the UK, as well as Kenya, India, and Greece, it ensured everyone could be part of the grand finale. 💯It was so inspiring to hear first-hand about the growth and impact the programme has had on our participants. Their stories of transformation and the support they received, especially from their mentors were deeply moving. 🌟 A few highlights from last night include: Izzy: "My mentor gave me the confidence to think through my decision-making process and pursue courses to gain the skills I need for my next steps." Myrina: "I didn’t know how to combine my psychology degree with solving the climate crisis. Now, I know it’s okay not to have all the answers—asking for support and taking it step by step is key." Quelli: "My mentor helped me think differently, asking the right questions rather than telling me what to do." Purity: "The IDGs from the Catalyst Summit shifted my mindset. They made me realise the power of soft skills in sustainable development." 🙏A special thank you to all of our brilliant mentors—your guidance has been the cornerstone of this programme’s success. And to Rhian Sherrington FRSA, Founder / Head Coach, for helping to equip them with the tools to make a real difference. 🌱 💚 A massive thank you to Emily Goetsch, Jessica Ferrow, and Kate Martin Bruintjes for your wisdom and contributions during the session. To help them “Get a Green Job,” we explored practical tips along with invaluable insights, such as: - The importance of being a generalist in such an interdisciplinary world - Following your passions or ‘what fires you up’ will help define your niche. - Staying curious, enthusiastic, and open to new opportunities. 🙏Thanks so much also to alumni Ayesha Mehrotra and Izzy Meeke for sharing your inspiring stories since doing the programme. 💚Finally, thank you to everyone who participated in or supported our sustainability empowerment and green careers mentoring programme this year. 🙏Together, we’ve created something truly impactful, and we can’t wait to see where our catalysts' journeys take them next. Here’s to building a greener, more sustainable future—one changemaker at a time. 🌍✨ #mentoring #changemakers #sustainability #careerdevelopment #IDGs #greenskills #greencareers

Today is Children and Youth Day at #COP29 🎉 Ed Miliband just announced the UK government's commitment to meaningfully include youth in its new 2035 national climate plan, and we need to see this ambition turn into real action – and for every country to follow suit. With over half the population under the age of 30 and so many incredible children and youth leading on climate action across the world, it's time we start treating EVERY day as 'Children and Youth Day'. We now need a real step up from the older generations to place children and youth at the heart of ALL climate decision-making. COP29 Children and Youth Pavilion
