  • In case you missed it yesterday, Zac and his family represented Chestnut Tree House on the Jeremy Vine show! Zac was joined by his mum, dad, and younger brother, as well as our Activities Team Leader, Jack. The feature, called ‘Christmas Stars,’ celebrates acts of kindness. Following the Christmas Hobbycraft advert featuring Zac, Jeremy Vine applauded the generosity of Together for Short Lives and Hobbycraft in supporting hospices across the country.

  • Last night we received a surprise visit from none other than Norman Cook (AKA Fatboy Slim). 🎧🎶 He set up his turntables in our annex and invited each child to have a go at DJing and guided them through the magic of music-making, sharing insider tips to create catchy beats so they could spin their own tunes. Loui is a big fan and was the first to get the party started! We'd like to say a big thank you to Norman for bringing so much joy to the House. The music allowed the children in our care to live in the moment, laugh, and make special memories with their families.

  • Claire and Dean lost their daughter Leah after she was diagnosed with a rare terminal disease following a shock diagnosis on Christmas Eve. “I still cry when I remember her lying in a hospital bed, for her first and only Christmas.” In the care of Chestnut Tree House, they were able to spend time making invaluable memories with their giggly little girl. Leah thrived so much under Chestnut’s care that the family were even able to bring her on a long road trip to her grandmother’s house in Coventry. It was here, surrounded by her adoring family, that Leah sadly died in her parent’s arms. “It was the hardest moment of our lives, but it was also loving and beautiful, thanks to Chestnut’s support to get her well enough to make the journey back to her wider family.” Will you give this Christmas, to help us to continue to support families like Leah’s? • “The thing I love most about my job is no day is the same! Even the setting changes on a daily basis, it varies from offering day care at Chestnut Tree House, to offering respite within the family home to being out and about in the community on day trips having fun and making memories with the children and young people we care for. “I also get to work with a fabulous team who support me on the good and bad days.” This #PhotoFriday we’d like you to meet Louise. Louise has been a Community Nurse here at Chestnut Tree House for just over five years. “My job is important to me as we get to meet the most amazing children and young people and their families, The resilience of these children and families amazes me every day! It’s so nice to be able to build positive and trusting relationships with the families we work with to be able to provide some much-needed respite for them. “We get the chance to give the children and young people opportunities and experiences they may not otherwise get, as well as giving them the chance to meet other children who are in a similar situation to them. Not only are we here to care for the children but it is also important to allow parents and siblings to be just that. “I feel privileged to be able to say I work at Chestnut Tree House. It is the most rewarding job I could imagine doing and I learn so much, not only from my colleagues, but also from the children and families I care for. I feel very lucky to be a part of it all.”
