🔙 Throwback to our digital heritage project 🔙 Dr Benjamin Kyneswood from our Research Centre for Creative Economies, Coventry University recently spoke to The Print about his exciting collaboration with Mumbai’s Hamilton Studios to digitise over 20,000 post-Partition photographs and artifacts 📜 This project aims to preserve a significant historical collection focusing on the period from 1947 to 1967 - a time of political upheaval and mass migration to the UK - and is documenting narratives that might otherwise be lost, contributing to a broader understanding of life post-Partition 🌎 Ben said: “We found many passport photographs from that era, as families sought new lives in the UK, Kenya and beyond. These photos captured young people -18 to 20-year-olds - on the brink of change. Connecting everyday people to their history is really important.” Revisit the story: https://lnkd.in/eMBmSVxj #CovResearch Nick Henry Victoria Barker

Our theme lead for Digital Heritage and Culture, Benjamin Kyneswood, has been working with West Midlands Combined Authority on an immersive version of their 'State of the Region' report, as part of their goal to combine qualitative and quantitative evidence – and in particular, the lived, real experiences of people and communities in the West Midlands. The online version features narration from the West Midlands combined authority and race equalities taskforce, and fuses data, stories, and visuals in an engaging way to make it come alive. In Ben's words: "It’s an attempt to make more available reports that are crucial to our everyday understanding of the region. Access is also crucial: we’ve included BSL & subtitles as options in this version. We’ve learned however that immersive really means immersive when it comes to data-based reporting, because it’s a bit overwhelming!" You can find the immersive version (for desktop and VR) at the link below. We’re exploring what curation for the next version might look like, so we’re keen on feedback – how do we do VR data exploration without it feeling like too much? #livedexperience #regionalinsight #immersive #digitalheritage

What does sustainability really look like in practice? This is one of the key questions behind the Sustainable Flowers Research Project which held this brilliant event yesterday. Another example of the collaborative and engaged research projects in the Centre (if we do say so ourselves). More great work from David Bek and colleagues!
Yesterday a new booklet on sustainability in floriculture was launched at Coventry Cathedral! 🌸 This was all part of the Sustainable Flowers Research Project, which focuses on reducing plastic, packaging and waste to build a more sustainable cut-flower industry 💐 The day began with a warm welcome from Professor Nick Henry, Director of the Research Centre for Creative Economies, Coventry University (CCE), followed by insightful introductions to the booklet from Professor David Bek (also from CCE) and Dr. Jill Timms from University of Surrey. Attendees explored interactive demonstrations by experts such as The Bath Flower School, Farewell Flowers, Shane Connolly - the King's florist, Organic Blooms and Zinnia Floral Design, all showcasing their eco-friendly floral designs. The event also featured panel discussions including Dr. Anna Bogush from our Centre for Agroecology, Water & Resilience, Zara Taylor from Interflora UK & Ireland, Dr. Angela Coulton from Petal and Twig, and Johnny Young from JZ Flowers/Dutch Flower Group. The project brings together a range of other collaborators such as the Floriculture Sustainability Initiative, the British Floristry Association, Flowers from the Farm, Superflora and Bloom & Wild – all to sow the seeds for a greener floral future 🌷 Take a look at the stunning floral displays inside the Cathedral ⬇ #CovResearch

Hello and thank you / welcome to all our new followers! It has been a busy week for CCE colleagues - we kicked off in style, meeting with Coventry University Research and Innovation colleagues, and since then we've been working with community groups through Coventry Digital, planning public engagement events about sustainable supply chains, discussing future projects, and discussing approaches to place at the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) / Architecture and Design Scotland (A&DS) / The Academy of Urbanism (AoU) event at the University of Glasgow. Plenty more to update you all on soon, but for now, have wonderful weekends. https://lnkd.in/e96Snpb5
