What a day today with the E-ACT secondary Art subject leads at our Birmingham HQ. Over this half term we have completed a 2000 piece trust wide year 7 Art trial using the RM compare adaptive comparative judgement software from Assessment from RM in conjunction with Merrick-Ed Limited to understand it's application as a tool in the assessment of the formal elements of line, tone and shape. Our trial tested the claim that RM Connect captures judgements based on the assessment objectives outlined regardless of the curriculum focus. Through our trial we found that we can assess accurately across the trust in year 7 Art with a reliability score of 0.8. Today we met to validated the rank order generated through our trial, utilising a 3 pronged approach to sampling. Our next steps are to distill our findings and take them into our next meeting where we will consider our trust approach to KS3 assessment in Art holistically. A huge thank you to Victoria Merrick for her contribution to the session and Sally Edwards for her work in preparation. It was great to see Chris Moore from Chillwell School and Lauren Nicholson from Assessment from RM at the session. We are proud to see our academies hosting events that create connections, spread joy and showcase the warmth of their local communities #teamspirit #thinkbig #belonging #community #WeAreEACT

🎉 Community Winter Fair Brings Festive Cheer! ❄️ On Sunday, 15th December, City Heights Academy hosted a spectacular Community Winter Fair, welcoming over 200 attendees for a joyful day of festivities, performances, and community spirit. 🎶 The standout moment? A breathtaking performance by the Brixton Chamber Orchestra in a packed main hall, with songs like Silent Night, New York, New York, and Reach for the Stars enchanting the audience. Adding to the magic, two City Heights students confidently stepped up during the open mic session, rapping alongside the BCO to cheers from the crowd! 🤝 Local community groups were at the heart of the fair, including ReKindle School, @St. Matthew’s Project, @High Trees, Fresh Visions, and Repowering London, who shared their incredible work and energy-saving advice. Healthwatch England Lambeth connected with residents to ensure the community's voice is heard, and @Incredible Edible Lambeth brought creativity with seed giveaways and a festive wreath-making workshop. 🎨 Families and children enjoyed: Face painting Cookie decorating Card-making Jewelry making 🍲 Tasty treats included popcorn, candy floss, dhal soup with naan, mince pies, and hot chocolate—plus a visit from Father Christmas and his elf with gifts for excited young visitors! 🎁 A massive thank you to the Manchester United Foundation for their generous raffle donations and to Southern Housing, @Nottinghill Genesis, and @MTVH for funding the free activities. The day wouldn’t have been possible without our incredible local volunteers. 👏 A special shout-out to our 12 City Heights student ambassadors who led activities, greeted visitors, and showcased the academy’s core values of excellence, courage, and community spirit. The Community Winter Fair was a wonderful celebration of togetherness, creativity, and joy—bringing festive cheer to all who joined us. Here’s to an even brighter year ahead! #CommunityWinterFair #CityHeightsAcademy #Togetherness #FestiveCheer #ProudToBeCHEA #Brixton

  • Sian John, Recruitment and Talent Project lead and Sophie Kayani, Head of Strategic Partnerships visited Birmingham City University yesterday to speak to PGCE students about preparing for employment and working for E-ACT. Key takeaways on preparing for application and interviews: 💻 Research the school/academy 🌐 Try and visit and tour the school in advance of applying 📖 Review common teaching questions and also questions you can ask the panel 📃 Have plenty of examples that can be used for key questions 📚 Don’t teach a complicated lesson – 🔍 Know who you are and your teaching philosophy 🕑 On the day dress smartly, be punctual, be polite, show enthusiasm #ThinkBig #TeamSpirit #DotheRightThinkg #OpeningMinds #OpendDoors #PGCE #Recruitment #JoinUs #WeAreEACT

A productive and inspiring day at Birmingham City University! Today, I had the pleasure of speaking with PGCE students about employability in education. A huge thank you to Sian John for inviting me to share insights into E-ACT’s organisational structure, Ambassador Groups, professional networks, what life is really like on the ground at an E-ACT secondary academy and my own, not-so-linear journey into the education sector. It was fantastic to engage with such an enthusiastic group, answer questions, and even meet students currently completing their placements with E-ACT. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive, several students shared that they found the session both inspiring and practical. We can’t wait to see those applications coming in once they qualify! #PGCE #ECTs #Learning #ThinkBig #TeamSpirit

Really insightful day with E-ACT colleagues looking into our pupil number data, in-year mobility and factors that influence school choices. Some interesting research discussed and reviewed.

We would like to thank Becky Francis and the Curriculum and Review panel for bringing their roadshow to us at E-ACT Oldham Academy North yesterday. Our students and staff were outstanding ambassadors, representing all with their feedback, reflections and thoughts around the current curriculum during the day, followed by the engagement event open to all in the North West. Tom Campbell opened the event saying "what we teach in our schools and how we assess our children speaks to the values we have as a country". The discussions and interactions with the audience provided invaluable insight for Becky and us all to take away for the next stage of the review before the interim report is published in the Spring. #CurriculumAssessment #WeAreEACT Department for Education Tom Campbell Pete Kirkbride Jessica Giraud (NPQH) Kay Shepherd Andrea Atkinson
