Ron is a proven leader, adept at managing teams and delivering outstanding projects. As overall project lead, he oversees concept and developed design, technical delivery, feasibility studies, work stage programming, consultant coordination, and client liaison. His impressive portfolio includes three RIBA award-winning schools, reflecting his commitment to design excellence and technical rigour. Welcome, Ron! Working together the design team and Ore Valley Housing Association Ltd. reinstated the town’s Miners’ Institute to provide 10 high-quality, energy-efficient flats that honour its mining heritage and support its pressing need for affordable housing. Completed late last year, Bowhill was winner of the National Gold Award at the International Green Apple Environment Awards 2024 in the ‘Property and Estate Management: Regeneration’ category.

Following on from Maria Buenaventura and Wong Boon Zhen 's presentation and workshop sessions on 31 January for the University of Central Lancashire Architectural students - covering general sustainability and on using Passive House software design tools - ECD Senior Architect Wolfgang Küchler returned to the Uni on Friday to provide a session with the first year students. This focused on on translating sustainability goals into practice using ECD projects as examples. The session sparked insightful discussions, with students exploring the challenges and technical considerations of sustainable design. And some thoughtful questions were asked (such as what is the lifespan of new cladding materials) alongside broader conversations as to how elements of retrofit could be part of newbuild projects, and how minor changes alongside retrofit could transform existing buildings. It was great to see some of the next generation of designers engaging critically with these important topics.

Congratulations to Davide Argentieri on becoming a Certified Retrofit Designer! We’re incredibly proud of Davide for completing The Retrofit Academy's newly launched Retrofit Designer course – the UK’s first Retrofit Design course created around the PAS 2035 framework. As part of the first wave of students to complete it, Davide is now among the very first certified Retrofit Designers! A qualified Architect and Passivhaus Designer, Davide already plays a key role in our retrofit projects for Cambridge, Thanet, Thurrock, and Wandle so it’s nice to have this certification honouring this. Retrofit Designers lead the way in shaping energy-efficient homes, ensuring every detail – from design to material specification – is carefully planned to meet PAS 2035 standards. This new certification is no small feat – it involved 16 in-depth modules, assessments and case studies.
