2024 ECN Winter School in Palma de Mallorca EASO extends our sincere gratitude to everyone who contributed to the success of this year’s Early Career Network (ECN) Winter School in Palma de Mallorca. Many thanks to the Novo Nordisk Foundation, which supported the 2024 Early Career Winter School. 👏 This event would not have been possible without the commitment and expertise of our expert Faculty, ECN board members, organisers, and our Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs), each of whom played a vital role in creating an impactful experience for our delegates. The Winter School provided delegates a comprehensive curriculum which addressed a wide range of critical topics in obesity science and clinical practice. Delegates gained valuable insights on themes including stigma and patient perspectives, obesity communications, the human exposome and environmental factors affecting health, obesity genetics and the pathophysiology of obesity, and women’s health and obesity. Additionally, the program covered exercise training interventions in obesity, disordered eating, statistical analysis in research, and the influence of modern food systems. We extend our congratulations to the outstanding group of early career delegates who participated with enthusiasm. Their commitment to advancing their knowledge about obesity is a promising indicator for the future of our field. Obesity Week 2024 EASO had an impactful and dynamic experience at ObesityWeek2024, marked by a whirlwind of productive collaborations and inspiring conversations with colleagues from leading organisations, including the World Obesity Federation, ECPObesity, The Obesity Society, Obesity Canada – Obésité Canada, Obesity Medicine Association and a host of dedicated partners from patient advocacy communities and across the healthcare industry. Together, we explored new approaches to advance obesity management, share best practices, and strengthen our collective commitment to supporting people living with obesity. Each meeting underscored the value of bringing together diverse perspectives and approaches to drive positive change, and we left with a shared sense of purpose for the future. A highlight of the week was the international symposium on the final day, which focused on a collaborative approach to developing inclusive and accurate language for obesity management medications. The gathering brought together experts, advocates, regulators and industry leaders to discuss language used in obesity care, and highlighted the new European Association for the Study of Obesity (EASO) Obesity Taxonomy—a framework and tool for fostering a more precise, respectful, and scientifically accurate dialogue around obesity. By working together to refine the language we use, we can help reduce stigma and ensure that terminology aligns with scientific evidence, clinical realities and patient experiences. This symposium reinforced the importance of words in shaping perceptions and was a powerful conclusion to #OW2024. Volkan Demirhan Yumuk Jason Halford Jennifer Baker
