The installation of the cladding is fast progressing on 334 Oxford Street, a mixed-use building in London by Allford Hall Monaghan Morris architects, for developers Ramsbury Group. The unitised curtain wall panels manufactured by Scheldebouw B.V., comprising large glazed infills, projecting GRC string courses and coloured vertical aluminium extrusions, are going up. Lendlease are the Main Contractor delivering the project, to whom FMDC Ltd are novated for construction, following our involvement in the design and specification of the cladding alongside Allford Hall Monaghan Morris from RIBA Stage 2. FMDC Ltd recently witnessed the successful installation of the first unitised curtain wall panels for 1 Liverpool Street in London, manufactured by Josef Gartner GmbH. An important milestone for this office project designed by Eric Parry Architects. FMDC Ltd were appointed by Aviva to provide facade engineering services for the early design stages, working in close collaboration with Eric Parry Architects, and were subsequently novated to Mace for the construction stage. The main facade types incorporate cast and pressed metals to reflect the architecture of Liverpool Street Station nearby. These were just a few of the (at times slightly cryptic) questions of the Society of Façade Engineering (SFE) 2024 Christmas quiz. Last week, Lisa Nunn and David Richardson of the FMDC Ltd stone team visited the University of Greenwich and presented “Urban Landscaping with Stone” to the Landscape Architecture students, who also got a hands-on experience with samples of popular stones used in many landscaping projects. The presentation covered an introduction to natural stone types and popular stones used in landscaping, featuring award-winning natural stone projects and highlighted the importance of stone selection and testing. The students were also given an insight into the sustainability of stone, as well as stone industry practices showing dedication to making an already sustainable material even greener. It was a pleasure to meet Kristofer Cullum-Fernandez and great to catch up with Duncan Goodwin! FMDC Ltd were well represented at the Zak World of Façades London event on 6th Nov. Lisa Nunn and Duncan Richards gave a presentation on the ‘Viability and Sustainability credentials of Structural stone and Matt Williams was part of a panel entitled ‘Are we mastering the demands and complexity of today’s facades’, which closed the event. The talks on offer were very interesting and the networking opportunities invaluable, as always. In the evening we hosted a table at the Society of Façade Engineering (SFE) awards dinner, for which FMDC Ltd were shortlisted in 2 categories and were delighted to be joined by our guests Neil Read from Landsec, Laura King from KPF, Raluca Ciorbaru from Fletcher Priest Architects and Nahdya Thebault from Stiff + Trevillion Architects.
