  • 📣 On behalf of our Armed Forces Network, we are pleased to share that the Dan Lee Mil Race will return in 2025. If you're looking for a challenge and are free on Sunday 23 March then take a look at JP's post 👇 #DanLeeMilRace2025

  • We recently welcomed local MP for Bury North, James Frith, to our Bury and Ramsbottom stations, the first visit as part of ongoing GMFRS MP engagement sessions. At Bury Fire Station, James observed one of our apprentice Fire Fighters complete a mid-point assessment which included a road traffic collision demonstration. At Ramsbottom Fire Station, the crew gave James an informative look through the specialist DIM (Detection, Identification and Monitoring) vehicle equipment. James Frith, MP for Bury North said: "It was great to visit Bury and Ramsbottom fire stations to meet the teams there and understand more about how our fire fighters are trained to deal with a whole range of emergencies and incidents. A big well done to apprentice Josh who had the unenviable pressure of his MP visiting during his mid-point assessment! And thanks to the crews who took the time to talk to me about how they’re using new technology to deal with major incidents.”

  • On this #WhiteRibbonDay, we are inviting our staff members to join us in making a promise to never use, excuse, or remain silent about men’s violence against women. We are committed to addressing the attitudes and behaviours that contribute to violence and inequality faced by women in their everyday lives. Our White Ribbon Steering Group is enhancing learning opportunities for our staff on topics such as gender bias, sexual harassment, and allyship. In the upcoming year, some of our colleagues will receive training on recognising and tackling misogyny in the workplace, supported by Greater Manchester's gender-based violence strategy. Together, we can make a difference. #ItStartsWithMen

  • It was inspirational to see the number of allies and level of passion in the room at yesterday's Power of Staff Networks conference. As well as offering tips around how we can all be more inclusive, our staff network chairs reflected on some of their important work over the last 12 months and shared how they feel supported and listened to by senior leadership. Our networks are key to helping us achieve our EDI ambitions and their insight helps us to offer solutions and make change that really benefit our under-represented colleagues. We’re looking forward to building on this work even further as we head towards 2025. #POSN2024

Yesterday, with colleagues from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service, we hosted our fourth Power of Staff Networks Conference, which celebrates all of the inspirational work delivered by our staff volunteers over the last year. As well as hearing from the chairs of each of our internal networks, Anna Irving of Race Equality Matters delivered a keynote speech and reminded the room about how our organisation was recently awarded Bronze status through their Trailblazer programme. She shared that the panel, which is made up of ethnically diverse people from across the UK, felt that we’d demonstrated growth in diversity and inclusion, offered good training, provided transparency and delivered real support for underrepresented groups. Our networks play a vital role in creating workplaces that fit people’s individuality, not the other way around. Their insights are powerful and have actively shaped how our organisations have developed over time. We're so grateful for this group of committed volunteers who give their time and energy to support such important causes and hope that by celebrating their incredible work, we can spotlight safe and welcoming spaces for all of our under-represented colleagues. #POSN2024
