The Chamber has welcomed the publication of a new report as a blueprint for effective adoption of innovation in the NHS. Take 10 minutes out of your day to watch this film showing the amazing difference improvement work in the NHS can do. Baby Luna was born at 24 weeks and received all of the pre and post birth interventions she needed to have the best chance. This requires co-ordinated, timely care across more than one maternity and neonatal service. This has been aided by a long term project bringing together our region to work to improve the reliability of these systems to be able to deliver each intervention, as part of a national programme of preterm optimisation with NHS England

🎥 From preterm birth to thriving baby! Follow little Luna’s amazing start in life after her mum Rebecca unexpectedly went into labour not much more than halfway through her pregnancy. NHS maternity and neonatal staff worked together to make sure they got the right care in the right place at the right time. This ten-minute video features some of those highly skilled health professionals, Rebecca and her partner Alan, and, of course, their daughter Luna! The British Association of Perinatal Medicine (BAPM) has introduced a series of evidence-based interventions designed to lead to better outcomes for babies born too soon. We have worked with NHS England and a regional network of NHS maternity and neonatal units to ensure these measures are used in everyday practice. Luna was born at 24 weeks and one day – and she weighed just 655 grammes. That’s about the same as three apples! A new report outlines how local change involving England’s 15 health innovation networks (HINs) led to national impact benefitting patients, addressing NHS challenges and supporting economic growth. The report includes success stories from our region: * Harnessing AI to improve care after stroke * Spreading a pre-eclampsia test to almost all maternity units * Finding and treating people with severe asthma * Supporting innovators with a net zero guide * Evaluating the effectiveness of virtual clinics It also highlights progress led by HINs across the country in addressing cardiovascular disease, patient safety, health inequity and more in 2023/24 with HINs collectively: * making a difference to the lives of more than 1 million patients * leveraging £467 million investment through innovator support. 🍃Polycystic ovary syndrome test has potential to improve patient experience and reduce NHS carbon footprint🍃 A new blood test has been developed to help diagnose polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), a common condition affecting women of reproductive age. The simple test can be incorporated into routine phlebotomy appointments, eliminating the need for an invasive ultrasound scan and an additional hospital visit. By simplifying the diagnostic process, the test can reduce waiting times, improve the patient experience and lower the carbon footprint. The test also contributes to addressing health inequalities. Amelia James, Environmental Sustainability Lead at Health Innovation Kent Surrey Sussex and Health Innovation Oxford & Thames Valley worked with the team at Roche Diagnostics UK & Ireland who developed the test, to explore and quantify its potential environmental benefits.
