Lee Davies Joins RIBA Jury for 2025 Awards We’re delighted that Lee Davies, Director at HNW Architects, has been selected as a RIBA Jury Member for the 2025 RIBA Regional Awards. As a Masterplanner, Architect, and Conservation Architect, Lee brings a wealth of expertise to the judging panel. Lee is the regional representative and joined by highly regarded fellow industry professionals to assess projects that exemplify architectural excellence. All shortlisted projects will be visited in person by the jury in March, with winners announced this May. These regional winners will then be considered for the highly coveted RIBA National Awards, revealed in July. Lee said: "I'm looking forward to visiting the shortlisted projects, collaborating with my fellow jury members, and contributing to the credibility of these peer-reviewed awards, which celebrate the highest standards of architecture." HNW Architects' Vision for Emery Gate Featured by BBC We are delighted that our comprehensive redevelopment plans for Emery Gate Shopping Centre in Chippenham have been highlighted by the BBC. Developed in close collaboration with a wider design team, the project is the result of a well-considered, design-led approach that balances heritage, sustainability, and placemaking. Key features include: • Commercial Space: 40,000 sq ft allocated for retail, health, leisure, and dining establishments. • Residential Development: 225 new homes situated in a highly sustainable location. • Historic High Street Revitalisation: Sensitive enhancements to repair and rejuvenate the historic High Street. • Green Spaces and Connectivity: Increased greenery and biodiversity, with new connections from the High Street to open spaces and the River Avon Corridor. HNW Architects are delighted to announce that Planning Consent has been achieved for circa. 210k sqft Industrial and Employment accommodation on a large brownfield site in Poole. The planning committee of Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole (BCP) Council voted unanimously to resolve to grant permission at Sopers Lane, Poole, on a 10.7-acre site formerly owned by Siemens Plc, acquired by our client Kingsbridge in 2023. The first phase of the development will include a high-tech 106,000 sq ft Office and Manufacturing facility pre-let to IMI Poole, formerly known as Thompson Valves, which manufactures high integrity solenoid valves and pressure regulators. The move will enable IMI Poole to relocate 240 highly skilled staff from its nearby facility into a new centre of engineering excellence in a world class working environment at Sopers Lane. The second phase of the new development at Sopers Lane will deliver a further nine speculative units ranging between 3,750 sq ft and 26,000 sq ft. Over both phases all units will be built to meet a minimum BREEAM Excellent standard, with a target EPC-A energy performance certificate with rooftop PV panels and EV charging points. Development is expected to start in March of this year with the first phase handover targeted for Spring 2026, and we look forward to sharing further updates along the way. Sustainability remains at the heart of all that we do. We continue to reduce our carbon footprint year on year to meet the RIBA 2030 Challenge, achieving a 13% improvement on last year and a remarkable 54% reduction (without offsetting) since 2019. Building Futures: Mentoring Architecture Students at South Street It was a pleasure to share the progress of our South Street project in Lancing with architecture students from the University of Brighton! The visit gave a unique opportunity to see the transformation of an underused car park into seven much-needed mews homes for vulnerable families. The highly sustainable scheme, developed for Adur District Council, employs modern methods of construction (MMC), including off-site manufacturing and Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs). These innovations speed up construction, reduce waste, and ensure a high-quality finish – all while minimising disruption to the surrounding area. A big thank you to Sunninghill Construction for their time and expertise in guiding the group around the site and sharing their experiences and knowledge. As active members in the RIBA Mentoring Scheme, we regularly support and engage with the next generation of architects by providing hands-on learning opportunities. Visits like these help students connect their university studies with the realities of the construction site and the important role collaboration plays in delivering exceptional results. It’s always inspiring to see the enthusiasm and talent of future architects. Our future is in safe hands, and at HNW we’re committed to supporting their growth through mentoring, site visits, and career guidance.
