Our commitment to delivering new affordable homes is not only about the quantity we deliver, but also about making sure we are delivering the right homes in the right areas and reflecting our communities' individual needs. In Gateshead, we are working with a number of partners to improve the choice and standard of local housing as part of the Gateshead Regeneration Partnership (GRP) - with more than 100 new affordable homes to be delivered across two sites. In High Spen, work has started to deliver 49 new family homes and ensure that there are new housing options being developed that can support the people of Gateshead in all stages of their lives. Meanwhile, right in the heart of Gateshead, work is also beginning on a further 62 affordable homes in Bensham. This includes 20 homes which have been specially designed to meet the needs of the local Jewish community. Delivering new affordable housing is vital to our communities, and making sure they are reflective of our local areas and their needs ensures a stronger community in the future. #SocialHousing #Development #Gateshead

It’s here! Inclusivity Week has kicked off, and we’re bringing everyone together with events, conversations, and big ideas. This year it’s all about action, not excuses! Inclusion is in our DNA at Home Group. It’s not just what we do, it’s who we are. We’re proud to create a space where our colleagues and customers belong, where differences are celebrated, and every voice is heard. That’s not just good for our customers; it’s how we thrive as a team. Inclusion drives everything we do. If we are to meet the UK net zero targets, we must be thinking about sustainability and our impacts on the environment around us. That means building our new homes to high energy efficiency standards, but it also means retrofitting our existing homes to be much better insulated and efficient. This helps our customers save money on their energy bills, but it also presents another opportunity - for us to share and help educate people on what retrofitting social housing can look like. We hear about retrofitting a lot across all different sectors and contexts and there are many different approaches organisations can take. Having completed a 90-home whole-house retrofit scheme in Cumbria recently, we have now opened up a space to help share what that looked like for our project and better explain why those retrofitting methods worked for ourselves and our customers, and the benefits they are already delivering. #SocialHousing #Sustainability #Retrofit #Cumbria

Great to speak with North East Mayor Kim McGuiness about her plans, and our plans as part of the North East Housing Partnership, to deliver affordable homes in the region. #SocialHousing #NorthEast #Housing #Collaboration
It was great to meet with the Mayor of the North East, Kim McGuinness, at the North East Housing Partnership board meeting earlier. We have been able to meet her on several occasions over the past 6 months, but it was fantastic to hear more detail about her ambitions for the region and the work she has been doing to change things on a national level to make it easier for us in the region. With greater devolution of funding to come over the next few years, including a single integrated settlement for the North East in 2026/27, it is an important time for the region to get together and prepare for the future, and this morning the board was able to discuss what collaboration we were already doing and potential further opportunities. We are committed to continuing working closely with Kim, The North East Combined Authority and collaborating with other willing partners and with the right support, we can go further and faster.

On World Kindness Day, we would love to shine a light on all the fantastic Home Group colleagues who use their two days of paid leave each year to help those who need it most. ♥️ Today is a reminder that kindness has the power to bridge gaps, connect communities and make the world a better place, one small act at a time. #HomeAPlaceWhereYouBelong #WorldKindnessDay #Volunteering

Join us on Monday 20th November at One Strawberry Lane where our partners at Connected Voice will be hosting a workshop about the recent changes brought about by Labour's Employment Rights Bill. We' re joined by legal expert Lisa Kelly from law firm Muckle LLP | B Corp™ and our own Head of HR, Jaya Sample, who will be sharing some practical advice on how you can implement these changes in your workplace. The session will cover: • Making unfair dismissal a ‘day one’ right. • Ending ‘exploitative’ zero-hours contracts.’ • Introducing rights to paternity, unpaid parental and bereavement leave from day one. • Removing the current three-day waiting period and the lower earnings limit for statutory sick pay. • Strengthening flexible working by making it the default where this is ‘practical’. • Strengthening protections for pregnant women and new mothers, including protection from dismissal while pregnant, on maternity leave and within six months of returning to work. • Addressing low pay by accounting for the cost of living when setting minimum wage rates and removing discriminatory age bands. 🌟 Meet our Regional Directors 🌟 Introducing Katherine Hernandez, our new Regional Director for the East Coast and Yorkshire! Born and raised in Middlesbrough, Katherine’s roots in social housing and experience across youth and community settings have shaped her strong focus on customer needs. After a rewarding career as a teacher and even a stint in the private sector, Katherine is bringing her passion for community building and customer care to her new role at Home Group. Katherine’s priorities for the East Coast and Yorkshire? 👉 Listening and learning from customers – focusing on improving how we handle complaints and making repairs and maintenance more efficient. 👉 Building trust on estates – having a real presence in our communities to foster stronger relationships and create thriving, supportive neighbourhoods. Fun fact! Katherine has an adventurous side. She’s jumped out of planes, scuba-dived with sharks, and taken on many challenges, but nothing has been more exciting (or terrifying!) than becoming a parent! With Katherine’s commitment to customer satisfaction and community engagement, we’re excited to see the positive changes ahead for the East Coast and Yorkshire!
