Volunteer led charity providing International peer support, research engagement and advocacy for people with Long Covid.
About us
Long Covid Support is a registered charity (England & Wales) formed by a group of people with ongoing symptoms following SARS-CoV-2 infection. Our work spans 3 areas - advocacy, research involvement and peer support. We have been working to build awareness of the challenges and needs of people living with long-term effects from their initial Covid-19 infection, to advocate for those impacted and to embed lived experience into medical research and the diagnosis and treatment of Long Covid. We advocate for clear public health messaging, evidence-based health information and appropriate legislation to enable a sustainable return to work, education or caring responsibilities. We actively promote patient involvement in research, by facilitating the coproduction of research priorities, patient recruitment and dissemination of research findings. In addition, we have a tightly moderated private peer support group which is one of the largest in the world of its type. It's a safe place enabling anyone dealing with, or caring for someone with, Long Covid to share their stories and receive support wherever they are in the world and at whatever hour. Our programme of social and wellbeing activities includes online chats, chair yoga, opera breathing and a choir together with providing specialist resources to help with the debilitating range of symptoms that present with Long Covid.

🌍 This week, I had the profound honour of speaking at an international meeting on children with Long Covid, held in Rome. The event brought together some of the most determined expert clinicians, researchers, and patient advocates—united by a shared commitment to improving outcomes for children and their families. It truly was nourishing for the soul. Organised by Danilo Buonsenso, who has been tirelessly listening to patients, treating them, and advancing Long Covid research since 2020. This meeting was unique giving equal time to all speakers. This decision, though rare, reflects a powerful message: patients and their lived experiences are vital to shaping the future of care and research. Representing the global community on behalf of Long Covid Kids , I felt the weight of the opportunity. I shared the insights, experiences, and hopes of the thousands of families supported by our network. 📖 During the presentation, I highlighted: The dual burden faced by children and young people with Long Covid. Personal and community stories, including my own family’s journey with Long Covid. The grassroots origins and work of Long Covid Kids, now supporting families worldwide through peer support, resources, and advocacy. Statistics - Full publication coming soon. I closed with A Call for Urgent Action and Hope for the Future including; Long-term funding for dedicated paediatric research and care. Multidisciplinary care approaches that are accessible to all. Educators who understand chronic illness and create supportive environments. At the end of my presentation, I was taken aback and deeply moved to receive a standing ovation from the audience. It was an overwhelming and unexpected moment, that reminded me of the power of sharing our stories and the importance of being seen and heard. I was touched by the response, the standing ovation truly belongs to the thousands of families and children whose experiences I had the privilege to represent. To my fellow attendees and organisers: thank you for listening, caring, and collaborating to create change. To everyone reading this: let’s work together 💙 "It takes a village to raise a child." Supporting families affected by Long Covid is not just a parental responsibility—it’s a collective societal and healthcare duty. The voices of children, like those shared through artwork and poetry during my talk, remind us why this work is urgent. #LongCovidKids #Advocacy #Research #Collaboration #RomeMeeting #PaediatricHealth #ChildHealth

The UK Covid-19 Inquiry is really highlighting the contrast in evidence between witnesses, for example UK Health Security Agency, Public Health Agency Northern Ireland, Public Health Scotland, Public Health Wales and a raft of other witnesses. "We're now with Covid, with exactly the same place we are with flu or RSV or any other pathogens." PROF. DAME JENNY HARRIES UK Health Security Agency "1 in 7 respondents to the survey that Long Covid Support did had lost their job because of reasons connected to Long Covid." NATALIE ROGERS Long Covid Support Q: "So there wasn't and still isn't a clear picture of the harm Long Covid causes healthcare staff?" A: "That is correct." AIDAN DAWSON Public Health Agency Northern Ireland "I couldn't breath and I had difficulty with extremely serious fatigue and was just not able to function on a daily basis." PATRICIA TEMPLE Staff Nurse "What other treatments could be offered it's mainly psychological support is a key issue because fatigue, this sort of brain fog which is common... and some form of physiotherapy to try and rehabilitate." PROF. NICK PHIN Public Health Scotland Q: "Is the future planning and resourcing for Long Covid care adequate?" A: "I don't think so, not from what I'm seeing...I'm really concerned." PROF. RACHAEL EVANS Professor of Respiratory Medicine Q: "So Public Health Wales doesn't have any role in identifying long term impacts of a pathogen in a pandemic?" A: "It hasn't so far, no." PROF. FU-MENG KHAW Public Health Wales "Having a good understanding of prevalence and incidence of Long Covid in the population would aid us in commissioning. There are a number of ways in which that data can be established." PROF. Impactful words from the UK Covid-19 Inquiry witnesses, including: “Sadly there are people in here that will end up with Long Covid and until they do so you really can't understand the full ramifications that it's going to have on your life” NATALIE ROGERS, LONG COVID SUPPORT TRUSTEE "Anyone is at risk of getting Long Covid. From children to older adults. Everybody is at risk if you've had Covid." PROF. RACHAEL EVANS PROF OF RESPIRATORY MEDICINE. "It just beggars belief that we report MRSA infections when you have a cluster of 3 or 4 yet we had clusters of 100s of Covid infections and we are not taking those into account." PROF. PHILIP BANFIELD CHAIR OF BMA. "Long Covid has created a cohort of newly disabled people. The economic effects of Long Covid on those individuals have been profound and long lasting." MS. SARAH HANNETT KC COUNSEL FOR THE LONG COVID GROUPS. Thank you to everyone involved within the Long Covid Groups - Long Covid SOS, Long Covid Kids, Long Covid Physio, Long Covid Support and our legal team at Bhatt Murphy. Honoured to be representing the patient community and Long Covid Kids at the International Conference on Long Covid in Children this week. 🌍 It’s inspiring to join a global gathering of experts dedicated to uncovering answers and bringing hope to patients around the world. Danilo Buonsenso Resia Pretorius Daniel Munblit David Putrino Petter Brodin Antonio Gasparrini. Locatelli Franco Sir Terence Stephenson David Warburton Lael Yonker, Binita Kane, Eric Vos, Giovanni Scambia, Peter Rowe, Paola Palma, Eugenio Maria My daughter and I have been living with Long Covid since March 2020, and while it isn't curative, #pacing has been a crucial strategy for managing symptoms. Preparation has been key: I started "radical pacing" this past Sunday to ready myself for the journey. The trip is spread over two days, with rest stops planned to make it as manageable as possible. This will also be my first time navigating international travel with my wheelchair ♿️, so any travel tips are more than welcome! Grateful for this opportunity and excited to connect with others who are passionate about improving the lives of those with Long Covid and related conditions. #LongCovid #LongCovidKids #Disability #Travel #PatientAdvocacy #BritishAirwways

A very special Long Covid Awareness message from Long Covid Support. A light went out on Wednesday 18th September. #longcovidawareness #longcovid #longcovidcommunity #longcovidsupport #advocacy #covidisnotover Alt Text: Background image of a microphone with no one there speaking in front of rows of seats. Text reads A light went out on Wednesday 18 September. For those that had the privilege of knowing her, Jos Bell was a very special lady. Her dedication, determination and spirit reached far and wide including within the Long Covid community, and especially within our charity where she volunteered as an advocacy consultant. Jos had an immensely engaging personality and her breadth of knowledge was unequivocal. Even while dealing with debilitating conditions herself, her energy, insights, enthusiasm and can-do attitude impacted all who had the privilege of knowing her. We were in awe of Jos. Not having her around is still very difficult to come to terms with. We are incredibly sad here at Long Covid Support. We will continue our work advocating for appropriate Long Covid care, research and support, using all the knowledge and strength that Jos so selflessly gifted us.
