About us
We are on a mission to define affluence. Traditionally it was about luxury and status. Today, it is being defined by a new generation of consumers. With a spending power that is greater than any previous group, as of last year, the modern affluent millennial and generation Z consumer is shaping the world economy. This group are abandoning traditional symbols of ownership and focusing on expressing their individuality. In order to survive brands have to adapt. They need to meet these cultural expectations head on and embrace the new value codes that are emerging. Brands that understand this will win share of heart and wallet. We want to lead the way. Framed by a mindful approach we will bring industry leaders together to ask daring questions providing businesses new insight on this Modern Affluent consumer. The Modern Affluence Exchange (MAX) aims to bring together brands, industries and individuals around this common target consumer. It provides content and consultancy with a future ambition to connect capital to start and scale up opportunities in this area. In our digital space we aim to challenge the norm news cycle of content and create independent insight and research including ambitious white paper partnerships. Beyond this our focus is collaboration of people, through events, consultation, and committees to; Own the CONCEPT, Host the CONVERSATION and Drive the CHANGE.

AVAILABLE TO NON ATTENDEES: MODERN AFFLUENCE SUMMIT PRE SUMMIT WHITE PAPER PUBLISHED Last year’s white paper focused on the Great Wealth Transfer. We saw how by 2045 most of the world’s wealth will be in the hands of new generations, Gen-X, Millennials, Gen-Z and now Gen Alpha. These phased generations of wealth will invest and engage differently to previous generations because their values and attitudes have been shaped by a different economic, environmental, and technological cycle. This modern affluence mindset will mean the very definition of affluence will be reimagined and with it, we believe, so should the strategies of organisations and brands looking to engage with them. We have talked about cultural capital since our inception in 2019, but never has the potential return of investment from it looked so significant. We believe that the anxiety facing modern affluent audiences can be partly addressed by brands investing more in their cultural capital. A win, win. First, this would make the world a richer, more vibrant place (you’ll see how important this is from our research partner, ALTIANT). Secondly, we believe brands are likely to get an increased return on investment over time and become stronger and more meaningful to this valuable global modern affluent population. This report is our first in partnership with Claire Kent, an independent luxury and retail consultant, who has spent over thirty-five years involved in the sector including 17 years at Morgan Stanley, as their Managing Director, Luxury Goods & Retail Analyst it is available for purchase. In the same space, you will also find our ‘Summit Stage Summary’ covering everything discussed and debated at this years event. This is available at no cost. We hope you find both of enormous value. We welcome your feedback. Download reports here: https://lnkd.in/eXN5idhA Organised and managed by: Ben Whattam Marcus Watson Victoria Archbold

REPORT DOWNLOAD: RE-IMAGINING AFFLUENCE POST SUMMIT SUMMARY The concept of cultural capital is not new; however, our Summit experts would argue that it has gone from optional to an absolute necessity. As brands navigate the ever-changing consumer landscape and the increasing attention deficit of the human population, the ability to build relationships (relevance) is the challenge facing every brand. Partaking in culture, by which we mean investing in culture, offers brands the opportunity to improve the world around them, and by default build relationships with the audiences they need to thrive. In partnership with Aston Martin Lagonda Ltd . Chivas Brothers and Cazenove Capital alongside ALTIANT research company. We gathered over 20 speakers, all experts in their field alongside 200 attendees across traditional luxury brands and finance alongside modern affluent business owners and entrepreneurs. Like every summit organiser we always receive emails requesting VAT receipts and never-ending name changes and requests for us to adopt AI automated sales outreach on LinkedIn (just us?!). However, we are also fortunate enough to receive gushingly complimentary notes for our refreshing thinking, eclectic sector mix (no clique here) and fun format so we hope this report reflects that. Our speakers comprehensively spoke to the benefit of investing in cultural capital as both ‘the right thing to do’ from a societal standpoint but also as a way of hedging against economical and destabilising headwinds so if you don’t end up also wanting to send us a nice email maybe it will help you share internally what you already know – it’s time to consider culture. https://lnkd.in/ewP6e2f9 Featuring: Aimee Farrell , Andrew Phillips , Charlotte Tanneur Teissier , Chris Wisson , Claire Kent , Erica Pettit Alkhfaji , Geoffrey Perez , Georgia Noutsti , Georgina Morley (née Borthwick) , Helen Brocklebank , Jamie Caring , Jocasta Pana , Katy Wickremesinghe , Kristina Karassoulis , Liam Bailey , Mike Pickett , Natasha Kizzie , Olivier SUCHARD , Rob Lee , Thomas Aastad , Thomas Signer Produced and managed by; Ben Whattam , Marcus Watson , Victoria Archbold , Mark Izatt Download report here:

In an extraordinarily in-depth article on the private member’s club phenomenon, Knight Frank ‘s Liam Bailey and Patrick Gower take us around the world and into the inner sanctum of a construct which has explosively evolved with rising demand. Liam will be on stage at next week’s Modern Affluence Summit but if you have a spare 10 minutes now this ‘guide’ is an essential read. At previous summits we’ve discussed in depth the importance of both a ‘third space’ - not work, not home but a venue to meet, work, relax and share and a resource for the more nomadic user who has a need to feel a sense of place far away from home. The experts quoted stress the importance of a member focused strategy where programming is essential not over reliance on ‘bricks and mortar’. Our final thought, without spoiling the read, the clubs that are not clubs - restaurants and hotels that can, sometimes if they get it right, hold on to patrons. Clubs without membership. Enjoy. https://lnkd.in/emf2h2r7 Last remaining tickets for the Summit at https://lnkd.in/ehB84tKa

‘The luxury industry is going through a very rough patch, and the clouds aren’t expected to lift soon’ states Vogue Business writer Laure Guilbault as Gucci is the latest luxury brand to release a decline in growth. As we enter a new macroeconomic cycle the behaviours and patterns of the past are unlikely to sustain global growth or stimulate it in the same way they have previously. At our Modern Affluence Summit this year, Thomas Signer lecturer and former banking analyst will join us as he sets out the need to reimagine affluence in the context of an aging population and an over artificially-stimulated economy. What will this mean for your longer-term business strategies? Tomorrow (31st July 2024) is the last opportunity to purchase tickets to the Modern Affluence Summit hosted at 180 Studios, London on 26th September at the Early Bird price: https://lnkd.in/esXJStFe Tickets include: - Pre-event white paper - Half-day stage sessions - Long curated lunch - Post-event report
