Great interview on BBC Radio 5 Live this evening by my fab colleague Kate Weston - McDowell talking about a kayaker in Chile being caught in a humpback whales mouth. The story sounds almost funny at first glance but it’s actually an important reminder of how big an impact even the smallest watercraft can have on whales - disturbance is a growing threat in many parts of the world and it can cause these animals to abandon important habitats and stress them out, along with physical damage from the vessels themselves. ORCA (Organisation Cetacea) are working hard with our partners to encourage responsible whale watching through the cruise industry and Kate is leading on that growing work area, so it’s great to get the message out about how important it is to be respectful of wildlife when we are enjoying time in their habitat! Thanks to Clare McDonnell for having us on the show and great job by Kate too! You can check out the story yourself at the link below - you can catch the story at around 2:26:48 - and as an added bonus even hear a little about where Kate’s marine conservation journey began 🐳 https://lnkd.in/emD4VfYc
