While public discourse often fixates on bathrooms and pronouns, the real challenges faced by the trans community include: ⏰ Long waiting lists for gender clinics 🧑⚕️Uneducated medical professionals 🚫 Violence against trans people 🧠 Inaccessible mental health care ⚖️ Difficulty accessing legal documents with correct name/gender 🏡 Homelessness and more These are systemic, structural issues that demand action, awareness, and allyship.     🌟 Two weeks ago, PinkNews was part of the Cultural Upfronts event in Soho, and what an unforgettable day it was! Our presentation began with the amazing drag artist Le Fil, whose performance was certainly a tough act to follow! The event concluded with a set by So Solid Crew, taking me back to my dedicated Romford raver days! 🎤✨ At the event, we tackled some pressing questions brands need to address for 2025: 💡 Why is purpose-driven advertising critical? Younger generations, raised in a time of heightened social awareness, expect companies to contribute to societal progress. With over 40% of Gen Z now identifying as attracted to the same sex (Stonewall), the LGBTQ+ community is an influential and growing demographic. Purpose-driven advertising not only builds trust but also drives loyalty from an audience that wields £6 billion in purchasing power in the UK alone! 💬 But how can brands overcome potential backlash? Recent examples like Bud Light show the risks of inconsistency and backtracking on commitments. The solution? Align campaigns with core brand values, know your audience, and prepare for criticism. Consistency and commitment is everything—brands that only show up during Pride risk being seen as inauthentic and tokenistic. 📈 Does purpose actually impact ROI? The data says yes! A study by the Unstereotype Alliance has found that advertising which offers genuine inclusivity and diversity delivers a 3.5% boost to short-term sales and a huge 16% bump for the longer term. And did you know that “boring” advertising needs an extra £10M in media spend to achieve the same impact as emotive work? Big mistake! Big! HUGE! (spot the film!) 🌍 How can brands scale LGBTQ+ outreach? Combining trusted LGBTQ+ media platforms like PinkNews with mainstream outlets is key to authenticity and efficiency. Targeting LGBTQ+ audiences through mainstream channels alone leads to inefficiencies and wasted spend. We can help with this!   • Car-manufacturers Toyota have announced a “refocus” of its diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) programmes – including no longer sponsoring cultural events and parades such as LGBTQ+ Pride in the US. In a memo sent to 50,000 US employees and more than 1,500 dealerships, the company said the decision follows a "highly politicised discussion" around business commitments to DEI. That "highly politicised discussion" was spearheaded by alt-right influencer Robby Starbuck who has also targeted brands and businesses like John Deere, Moslon Coors and Stanley Black & Decker.
