We design healthy and long lasting buildings, breathing life into your project.
About us
Rybka is a leading Building Services Engineering, Low Carbon and Sustainability Consultancy with a wide geographical spread and a focus on providing commercially viable, energy efficient design solutions to clients across the United Kingdom. Rybka has a long history of involvement with low-energy design solutions. There are now a number of sites up and running with local renewable energy and other low energy features but we will never accept that the best way to be energy efficient is to add renewable technologies to a building. We will first ensure that all options for improving the fabric and in some cases orientation of the building are considered. Optimising thermal insulation and detailing for air tightness can be a much more efficient way of reducing energy costs. Rybka has influenced the industry to focus on the wider picture with respect to environmental responsibility and in particular with reference to impending legislation. Rybka has long since embraced the use of IES modelling and simulation during early design stages to aid the design team to deliver the most efficient and integrated design. Over the years, Rybka have continued to develop sustainable and highly efficient engineering solutions for a wide range of projects across a multiple sectors. Our BREEAM Assessors are qualified in BREEAM New Construction, Refurbishment and Fit Out and In Use schemes and we have a number of Low Carbon Consultants and Energy Assessors.

We thoroughly enjoyed hosting our Rybka Glasgow Lunch last Friday at The Corinthian. Amit delivered a brief presentation on the decarbonisation process implemented by Rybka at the Waterfront Leisure Centre in Greenock, which sparked several interesting discussions. Engaging with industry peers and exchanging insights over lunch is always a rewarding experience!

Last Friday, Amit and Joe from our Glasgow team paid a visit to The Briggait to see the new Clydeside Market Halls ahead of next week’s handover. Rybka worked with Collective Architecture on the restoration of 1200 square metres of under-utilised space over 2 period halls to create an industries hub and market hall food and drink destination. The purpose of the project was to develop a conservation-led approach that addressed ongoing issues with the existing building fabric to bring back The Briggait's iconic status as an important building for Glasgow and its people. This was a great project to be involved in! Clark Contracts ~Wasps Studios ~ Narro ~ Collective Architecture

Last week, some of the our Building Physics and Sustainability team visited the Scottish Parliament to attend the very informative and interesting CIBSE Smart Buildings CPD and Networking Event. SSE explained the ongoing work being undertaken in the parliament, the challenges being overcome by the site-based team and how the BMS and systems are being updated. This was followed by a brief guided tour of the building, an introduction to the BMS systems being used and a demonstration of how difficult some of the routing and installations have been due to the nature of the building and materials used during construction. "There are no problems, only challenges", was a phrase that was used repeatedly during the visit, as SSE look to turn the Scottish Parliament into a hub of low carbon technology over the coming years.

We had a great visit to Oban Airport for our first on-site meeting and walkaround. We're really pleased to be a part of the team and look forward to seeing the project progress!
Last week hub North Scotland Limited had the pleasure of visiting Oban Airport where we are working in partnership with Argyll and Bute Council to deliver the new Oban Airport Business Park. The regional airport provides key links to the islands of Colonsay, Coll and Tiree. This project will create a specialist aviation, engineering and logistics cluster which will transform the airport’s offer, creating jobs and encouraging economic growth. Our team of Ryder Architecture, Waterman Group, RYBKA, and Currie & Brown were blown away by the spectacular setting near North Connel – surely one of the most beautiful airport locations in the UK. #Oban #Airport #infrastructure #investment #growth #resilience #abplace2b

Great to see that the construction of Easthouses Primary School is now complete, on time and on budget! This education facility was a pleasure to be involved in, catering for 460 pupils across nursery, primary and ASN departments. The school acts as an exemplar in benefiting the local community. We are proud to be associated with this project and congratulate the wider team and client in delivering this impressive education facility. Positive results in achieving an EPC Rating of A, with a platinum rating for carbon emissions. A change of scenery for some Rybka staff last week with a morning walkaround of the recent completed Replacement Woodmill & St Columba's High School. It was well attended by not only engineers directly involved in the project, but also members of the wider Rybka engineering teams and key CAD/BIM personnel. We feel it is important that, as part of staff’s individual training and development, they are all given the opportunity to attend these site walkarounds - particularly when it is the outcome of years of collective effort in helping to deliver an exemplar teaching facility for the benefit of the local Dunfermline area, as is the case with the WSC project. Credit again to the project team including BAM UK & Ireland for designing and constructing such an impressive facility. Fife Council ~ Hub East Central Scotland ~ AHR ~ AECOM
