About us
The Association for Science and Discovery Centres (ASDC) is the national charity that brings together the UK’s major science engagement organisations to play a strategic role in the nation’s engagement with science. Within our network are over 50 of the nation’s largest publicly accessible science centres, discovery centres, science museums and scientific bodies. Science and Discovery Centres are embedded in the heart of their communities in England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales. They have long-term partnerships with communities, schools and families as well as local institutions such as universities, industry and business, local government and the media. ASDC's STEM projects and programmes leverage this national infrastructure, expertise and investment offering families and the wider public across the UK unusual and exciting opportunities to discover, discuss, question and explore the latest science, engineering and research. Find out more about these programmes here. Every year our members work to encourage more diverse participation in science, engaging with over 25 million people of all ages, genders, backgrounds and abilities. See the full list of ASDC members here. Together, our vision is for a society where science is accessible, inclusive and valued by all as a fundamental part of everyday life.

🎈 🙌🏽 🎇Happy #NationalEngineeringDay everyone! Today we're going to be showcasing fantastic engineering role models, starting with a vibrant statue of the brilliant Alice Kan, designed by the talented artist Kelly Anna. 🎨 👩🏽🏫 👩🏻🔬 👩🏿💻 With women currently representing just 15.7% of the UK engineering workforce, down from last year, visible role models are more important than ever. Alice Kan hopes this initiative sparks curiosity, helping people see the creativity, problem-solving, and positive change engineering can bring. ✨ ❔ Who inspires you in engineering? Join the conversation with #EngineeringRoleModels and #NationalEngineeringDay. Today is National Engineering Day, a day for us all to marvel at engineering and for young people to feel inspired to make it their career. However, for a new, more diverse generation to aspire to join the profession, research tells us that they need role models who inspire and excite them about the possibilities of engineering. This is why, today, the Royal Academy of Engineering has unveiled specially commissioned art installations that feature engineers whose stories and engineering achievements make them aspirational role models for the next, more diverse generation of engineers to look up to. You can see them at Prince Phillip House near Charing Cross and Piccadilly Circus tubes and at https://lnkd.in/e9wUs5rz #NationalEngineeringDay #EngineeringRoleModels #EngineeringCareers
