Split Banana helps young people to have healthy relationships with their minds, their bodies and each other.

About us

Split Banana delivers Relationship, Sex and Health Education (RSHE) in three ways: by running workshops with young people; by training educators; and by consulting with schools and community organisations on their RSHE provision. I enjoyed reading this research about resistance that some teachers might experience when faced with teaching s3x-ed - both professionally + personally: https://lnkd.in/embKJdky. It echoes a lot of fears I’ve heard from teachers over the years: ⚠️ “It’s not my subject of expertise” ⚠️ “I’m worried about saying the wrong thing” ⚠️ “I find the prospect totally terrifying” This is totally fair! Most adults don’t find it easy to talk openly about s3x + relationships, especially in front of a room of teenagers. Both ‘stiff upper lip’ + ‘cancel’ cultures have parts to play in this. As well as people’s personal traumas that can make talking about sensitive topics tough. Split Banana is here to help teachers: 💫 Feel more comfortable using inclusive language (you won’t get it right all the time + that’s fine, it’s about being open to learning + improving) 💫 Understand their positionality (you might have things to unlearn + it’s important to do that work before teaching others) 💫 Feel confident to have open conversations that keep young people safe (as with everything, it takes practise + gets easier with time) You can learn more about all our CPD training offers here: https://lnkd.in/eXqSY-R2 If you work in a school, come along to our free webinar: https://lnkd.in/eSgZEeRt

  • A few weeks ago Tasha Mansley went to see the musical ‘Why Am I So Single?’ which is on at the Garrick Theatre for just two more weeks! An amazing show by Lucy Moss and Toby Marlow about the power of platonic love, the brutality of online dating (a.k.a the “meat market”), the experience of growing up gay in the 2000s, and the impact of grief. For anyone who grew up with their ideas of romance shaped by ‘Friends’ or ‘Twilight’ - this is a relatable must see! You can get last minute seats https://lnkd.in/eP-Wmdvv here!
