Our Dave King is never short of an opinion or two!
Founder/ Head of Business at a gutsy creative agency ... enjoys lifting weights, football and Campari.
Dave King offers his thoughts on 'purpose-driven' brands and campaigns. - Is Campaign UK clutching at straws with this headline? 54% of respondents rating their purpose-driven ads as “fairly” successful doesn’t sound like a ringing endorsement to us. But, it’s great to see purpose-driven work starting to be scrutinised in the same way as all the other work. Sure, a purpose is powerful when it’s genuine. But soap powder that exists to save the world gets a strong side-eye in our studio. “Piggybacking” has no place in brand-building and the bubble was always going to burst eventually. Thoughts? Are we in a “post-purpose world” yet? 🐖🐽 #branding #marketing

This time of year can often be 💥 C R U N C H 💥 time for brand planning – as everyone looks to nail down their ambitions and budgets for 2025. With that in mind, here’s a little snippet from our blog archive with some thoughts to keep knockin’ round your noggin’ while you plan. 🧠 ✍️📈 Nobody can do it all. The quickest way to fail is to try and please everyone. To be all things to all people. To play it ‘safe’. It’s not safe at all to be vague. To lack definition. All you’ll do is lose in ten categories instead of succeeding in one. Don’t let your brand sleepwalk into extinction. You’ve got to serve the system you suit. Get specific. Get sharp. And accept that appealing to some people means alienating others. You can’t do it all. Even if you find yourself on the edge of a cliff – that’s the safest place in the world for a goat. Because goats aren’t good at being pumas. They’re terrible at being worms. And they make worse than useless clown fish. But goats are the GOATS at being goats. So be your own species and stay off the endangered list. 🐐🐟🪱 Soak up some more wisdom on the full blog here: https://lnkd.in/erEsUP3f

Hannah Sturdy and Andy Gray headed to Perth to catch up with old friends and hear some thoughts at this year’s ASVA : Association of Scottish Visitor Attractions Conference. Hosted by CEO Michael Golding, and opened by Richard Lochhead, Minister for Business, the event showed just how important tourism is to the Scottish economy. While international visitors are on the rise, we heard how challenging a time it currently is for the industry. Overall an uplifting day, closed by the effervescent Bernard Donoghue OBE (CEO of Association of Leading Visitor Attractions) who shared the inspiring story of Nellie Bly. If you haven’t heard of her, look her up! One of the social highlights of our year is sharing a table with clients and friends at the Street Soccer Scotland Dinner. Street Soccer Scotland uses football to help people affected by social exclusion. They offer hope and belonging, to support people on their journey to security and happiness. The mighty sum of £190k was raised on the night – it’s heart-warming to see such a high level of support for the cause.

We had a blast last weekend at St James Quarter’s Light Switch On ceremony. It went off with a bang and got us good and ready for a vibrant festive season. Thanks for having us and ho ho hello to all the friends we bumped into in the cheerful crowds. 🎄🎅
St James Quarter welcomed a very special guest over the weekend. Arriving in style on the St James Quarter Express (courtesy of our friends at Edinburgh Trams), super-sharp Santa led a parade comprising of members of the cast of Cinderella from Capital Theatres - Festival Theatre, King's Theatre & The Studio and the #saltirestreetband who provided a jazzy christmas soundtrack along with fairies and ballet dancers from several Edinburgh stage schools. The parade made it's way from St Andrew Square, along #multreeswalk and through the Galleria, doubling in size by the time it emerged onto Register Square, where it was greeted by a massive crowd and the Rock Choir Ltd, ready for the iconic star to be lit. Saturday saw almost 100,000 guests join Santa and friends, driving footfall by +10.1% on the week and +9% on the year and becoming the busiest day of the year so far. Christmas is mosty definitely just around the Quarter. #placemaking #christmasevents #christmasshopping #retail

It’s a wrap! A couple weeks ago at The Social Hub in Glasgow celebrated all the talented interns from the UNLOCKED Internship Programme 2024. Now in its second year, the programme was founded by John Doe Group to help kickstart opportunities for underrepresented emerging talent. We’ve had the pleasure of supporting the programme since its inception with two brilliant interns – John Robertson earlier this year and Gloria R. in year one. It was great to catch up with them and many others at such an inspiring night – Pamela Scobbie, Mercy Abel and Elroy Elvie Evie gave a real insight into the impact of the programme. 🔑 Looking forward to meeting next year’s interns!
