📣 The ClimateTech Policy Coalition has launched their third annual report, including fresh insights from the frontline of climate innovation, along with priority areas for Government support. 🗺️ Focused on innovating to combat climate change *and* the constraints on the Govt, the report is rounded off with a refreshed blueprint of steps that the Govt can take to unlock climate innovation, building on its political priorities. 👍 Most surveyed Climate founders (38) thought that Labour’s election victory was a good thing for their business - with only a handful (5) saying it was bad. 👎 Only 11 founders said that the first five months of the new Govt had been good for their business, with 14 saying that it had actually been negative for them. 📢 ClimateTech founders want the Government to focus on ensuring that innovation is built into its priorities, including GB Energy and the Industrial Strategy. 🎆 2025 gives us the opportunity to refocus on action. There is a general sense of consultation overload - ClimateTech founders sorely need action at the end of the questions. From our report, we also found that: 👉 Over a third of Tech Zero members have published a net zero report and taken action to reduce their emissions, outperforming comparable schemes which track at less than 10%. 👉 24% of these companies have reduced their emissions since 2021, bucking wider industry trends. 👉 92% are open to collaborating with competitors, if this will help them to reduce carbon emissions. It was brilliant to be part of last week's Climate Leaders Forum at the UK House of Lords, hosted by Tech Nation and Founders Forum Group. Heading up the roundtable on the Responsibility of Technology was incredibly insightful, thanks to the contributions of James Donovan at OpenAI, Ling Ge at Tencent, Adam Savitz at Wipro, Lucy Ronan at Octopus, and David Monaghan at London Tech Week. We covered everything from the impact of AI on data centre emissions, to necessary improvements in electricity grids, to the role of government in motivating demand for clean tech, to what trade-offs we as a society are willing to make to mitigate the climate crisis.
