Gloves off and honing in….. A highly skilled technique supplied to some of our client’s products is the method of Honing. A resource that TENON Engineering supply to assist with controlling accurate bore sizes. Here we see the use of the Mitutoyo Bore Gauge set which will enable bore measurements to 4-5 microns. This allows us to rough-out the bore prior to using our Bowers Air Gauging equipment so that the final tolerance of 2.5 microns is achieved. We’re continually looking at ways to build on and improve our expertise, and this together with our ability to solve issues and provide solutions gives significant and real benefit to our contractual clients. We’re proud of the longevity of our client relationships and the thorough understanding we develop of our client’s needs. It is only a bore but there’s nothing boring about the accuracy level! If you have a project that requires a high level of accuracy, get in touch and let us help you. At the shear end… Few know it but some do. That is the science of #Rheology. Rheology is all around us in everything we engage with on a day-to-day basis - solids, liquids, creams, gels to mention a few. TENON Engineering has a long history of manufacturing tools that work at the sharp end of this field, and this is something we can do for you. Whether it is standard, specials or esoteric tools for the field of #Rheologytesting, Tenon Engineering has the experience, knowledge and capabilities to machine, calibrate and supply. We can supply as required or create a stocking contract. Whatever your needs in the field of Rheology the Shear Flow and scope of our experience will help you. Let’s build a supply chain together. #rheologytools #ukengineering #precisionmanufacturing Terry Healy Chris Norval Mary Norval

Trade off…. We are proud of the work we do for our international customers and value the assistance and expertise provided by the Department for Business and Trade. We recently hosted Keith Adams at our site to discuss export trade and opportunities, and it was great to be able to show him what TENON Engineering and our sister company, Wallace Instruments, do. Both companies look forward to learning and working with the government agency as energy and effort is applied to grow #ukexports for the benefit of all. ⚙️ www.tenonengineering.co.uk #ukmfg #ukengineering #internationaltrade #electromechanicalassembly #PrecisionManufacturing #Engineering Terry Healy Chris Norval Mary Norval

Some like it hot….. It may look slightly alien, a bit like a modern-day robot with outstretched arms and a white top but this sub-assembly is from our Wallace Instruments O14 heating block that is fitted into the Wallace O14 #AgeingChamber. The white material is insulation made from a calcium silicate-based material used for its properties for heat shielding. The four round Peek supports add to the insulation when the #subassembly is finally installed. So why all the insulation? The sub-assembly contains an 180watt heater band. This unit can get warm, very warm! This is yet another illustration of the skill of our assembly and #supplychain teams who are an invaluable and integral part of TENON Engineering. Projects, assembly and supply chain are some of the key resources within Tenon Engineering. Contact us to see how we can add some heat to your next project!🔥 ⚙️ www.tenonengineering.co.uk #electromechanicalassembly #QualityControl #QualityAssurance #PrecisionEngineering #PrecisionManufacturing #UKmfg #UKengineering #Engineering Terry Healy Chris Norval Mary Norval

All look this way….. Sunday saw members of Tenon Engineering and our sister company, Wallace Instruments, attend the Team Photo event for the Shirt Sponsors. Wallace on the left sleeve Tenon on the right sleeve. It was a great afternoon with Dorking Wanderers FC Women playing against Ashford Town in the third round of the Women’s FA Cup. Dorking came from behind and won 2-1. A really exciting game. We all know that teamwork is a critical aspect of performance, whether in sport or industry, but another under-rated characteristic is spirit. This spirit was viewed in abundance within the Dorking squad and staff. From the team, commercial support, management and catering staff - the atmosphere and positivity were infectious. We wish them well. Now to the engineering. Our Chief Engineer was intrigued by the 4g artificial pitch which contains a rubber base - this is Wallace Instruments’ territory and another example of how rubber affects our daily lives. #WomenInFootball #ForwardTogether #PrecisionManufacturing #RubberIndustry HelloDorking Lisa Edwards Chris Norval Terry Healy Mary Norval

Completing a final inspection on some very fragile jewels housed in a brass sleeve presents a challenge. A sapphire jewel with a central hole only 100 microns in diameter can be checked prior to insertion using magnification, but when the jewel assembly is inserted into the body of the instrument housing, it then makes it virtually impossible to clearly see the face of the sapphire to check for insertion cracking. These are delicate items. Each jewel is press fitted into a bore and this bore is at 90 degrees to the central axis. Still with me? SOLUTION. One of our clever colleagues came up with the concept of “looking around the corner” with a mirror placed at 90 degrees to the axis which when used with the #Cyclops digital microscope makes it possible to look down the bore and rotate the part to view the sapphire perfectly. Hence the jig and differing heights of 90-degree mirrors. Well done to all those that contributed to designing this #assemblyinspection process – demonstrating that at TENON Engineering our quality ethos is ingrained through every stage of #productdesign, #prototyping and manufacturing to deliver for our customers. ⚙️ www.tenonengineering.co.uk Aven Tools #QualityControl #QualityAssurance #PrecisionEngineering #PrecisionManufacturing #UKmfg #UKManufacturing #Engineering Terry Healy Chris Norval Mary Norval

Paper, as we all know, is the ubiquitous material that has recorded society in letter and document form. The transition to a digital world of emails, online magazines, etc has diminished how a paper’s surface is used, most notably in the newsprint industry. Here you can see paper being used as a protector of the previously #groundsurface whilst this component is finally ground to length and parallel to the datum face. If the paper was not used, then the surface would be excessively scratched, as the component is attached to the magnetic chuck on this #cylindricalgrinder. With the paper sandwiched between the surface and magnetic chuck there is still a perfect finish. So whence does this paper come from? The waste copies from the photocopier - paperless society!! ⚙️ www.tenonengineering.co.uk #QualityControl #QualityAssurance #PrecisionEngineering #PrecisionManufacturing #UKmfg #UKManufacturing #Engineering Terry Healy Chris Norval Mary Norval

Future proof… Yesterday we welcomed two 3rd-year undergraduate students, Philipa and Peter, from Loughborough University. Accompanied by Terry Healy our Chief Engineer, they toured our three factories to see firsthand how the company operates, the extremely high tolerances and limit values that TENON Engineering works to, and the challenges that arise. The assembly areas where the rheology air bearings are built particularly captured their interest due to our impressive design capabilities. This was followed by a tour of all our manufacturing and machining facilities. Their visit concluded with an extensive introduction to our sister company Wallace Instruments, and its suite of advanced materials testing equipment that we manufacture for them, explaining how these products are integrated into the international standards used within the rubber industry. They were also delighted to receive some small gifts housed in exclusive Andy Warhol-inspired Wallace tote bags, which were very popular giveaways when they exhibited at the recent Rubber Division, ACS International Elastomer Conference in Pittsburgh. Both Philipa and Peter, who had recently completed a year in manufacturing as part of their course, were impressed by the range and capabilities of Tenon Engineering, commenting, “We are amazed at the attention to detail, the tolerance limits that are worked to and the range of resources within the company.” Today the future came to Tenon Engineering and Wallace Instruments, and the future looks good! ⚙️ tenonengineering.co.uk #PrecisionManufacturing #RubberIndustry #UKManufacturing Chris Norval Mary Norval RUBBER HEART

Punch up… Up above the bespoke punch tooling fixture, the camera captures the action as the spinning is rotated and side holes are punched at each fixed location. This tooling fixture was designed to solve a logistics problem and help to deliver the finished assemblies to the customer in a timely manner. The brief from our engineering department was simple. Utilise sheet metal and fabrication and keep machined parts to an absolute minimum. Purchase proprietary components that are cost-effective. Only four machined parts, made here at TENON Engineering, are used. As can be seen, the punch tooling is functional and does one job well. It was a design with a killer punch. If you’re looking to collaborate with a company that doesn’t pull any punches, then TENON Engineering is ready to work together with you to achieve your goals. ⚙️ tenonengineering.co.uk #PrecisionManufacturing #SheetMetal #UKmfg #UKManufacturing Terry Healy Chris Norval Mary Norval RUBBER HEART
