Spinnaker House’s History 🏡 Spinnaker House Extra Care scheme, part of our £25 million investment in Rock Ferry, Birkenhead, opened its doors last week but the scheme is filled with nods towards the area’s history. In the 1920s, the former Rock Ferry High School opened its doors. It continued to serve children up until 2011 when, following a merge with Park High School, it became derelict. A century after it first opened, the site of Rock Ferry High School has been transformed to give people aged 55+ a safe place to enjoy the later years of life. Throughout the scheme, which is home to 102 apartments, you will find nods to the local community’s nautical heritage including wave-style windows, marine-themed interiors and artwork of Cammell Laird. There’s even a brass diver’s helmet on display! In memory of Walter Smith - former Rock Ferry councillor and Wirral Mayor - the new access road has been named Walter Smith Way. We are proud to announce we have been awarded a domestic abuse accreditation 🎉 Highlighted as the gold standard for housing providers in tackling domestic abuse, we are proud to say we have gained the Domestic Abuse Housing Alliance (DAHA) accreditation. This achievement is 3 years in the making and has been awarded to Torus for our policies, procedures and practice in identifying and responding to survivors and perpetrators of abuse. Jo Aston, Safeguarding Officer and DAHA Project lead, said: “I am incredibly proud to work for an organisation that is so committed to putting the needs of our tenants at the heart of what we do. Domestic abuse is a huge issue faced by so many and the work we have done so far to achieve accreditation means we are in a much better position to identify and offer support to those who need it”.
