BREAKING: The SFO has announced a new investigation into suspected bribery and corruption at multi-national aviation and defence electronics group Thales.     This is a joint investigation with French law enforcement, the Parquet National Financier (PNF), and we have now informed the company of the investigation. Whistleblowers can play a huge role in combatting economic crime.     On December 10, our Director, Nicholas Ephgrave QPM, will join a panel discussion to explore the role of financial incentives for whistleblowers and look at evidence from countries that have already implemented reward programmes. This event marks the launch of Royal United Services Institute's latest research into the potential impact of financial rewards for whistleblowers.

SFO General Counsel Sara Lawson KC recently delivered a keynote speech at the 33 Chancery Lane Business Crime Conference, speaking to a wide audience of legal professionals about the future work of the SFO.   She outlined the new Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act (ECCTA) powers, including the ‘failure to prevent fraud’ offence, set to take effect in September 2025, and discussed changes to corporate criminal liability.    She also highlighted the ambitions of our Director, Nicholas Ephgrave QPM for quicker investigations and his views on the potential for incentivising whistleblowers—an initiative that could accelerate SFO investigations and deliver faster justice for victims of economic crime.   The conference featured a range of expert speakers who addressed key issues in civil, criminal, and international litigation, as well as challenges facing the business crime legal community.   Learn more about our work here: https://lnkd.in/eAuYC3RU
