A patient-led charity that delivers specialist palliative care across North West Surrey
About us
Woking & Sam Beare Hospice and Wellbeing Care is a patient-led charity that delivers specialist palliative care to adult patients of all ages who have advance life-limiting conditions. We cover six Surrey boroughs with a population of over 360,000, providing free of charge care and support services for patients, their families and carers. We care for around 2,000 patients each year. Our care is provided for patients who stay in the hospice, come to us as day patients to the Bradbury Wellbeing Centre, but over 70% is delivered across the community in patient homes, care homes or nursing homes. We are committed to enabling patient choice and the best quality of life. All our care is delivered free of charge, but like most charities we are reliant on voluntary income. For every £5 of costs incurred we have to raise £4 to enable us to continue to be fully operational. We achieve this through income we receive from our 18 shops across the region and through fundraising activities and partnerships.

We'd like to thank all our lovely staff and volunteers who have given up their time to bucket collect for ATG Entertainment at The Ambassadors Woking, at Sleeping Beauty, for the Hospice throughout December and January. We have raised £4,366.00 and counting and will be at both the matinee and evening Panto performances up until Sunday, 5th January. If you are coming along to the Panto, look out for us and support us if you can! #Thankyouthursday #Itsbehindyou #Ohnoitisnt #Sleepingbeauty #Panto #Supportusthischristmas💝

For all the lights and sparkle Christmas brings, it can also be very stressful, and it can be even more difficult to cope if you are grieving a loved one. It may be your first Christmas without them or a few years down the line, but this time of year can bring so many different emotions to the surface. It is also sometimes helpful to know that despite the fact you may feel very alone in your grief, there are many people out there who feel the same. Susie Baker, Head of Counselling at Woking & Sam Beare Hospice, has shared some advice that may help you through the festive season if you would like to have a read - https://lnkd.in/ekKu2TGe

“When I walked in, I felt held.” These were Donna Darbin Pullen’s first words when asked about her time at the Hospice. Such a simple statement that means so much. This is exactly how we want families to feel when they walk through the doors to the Hospice. During the most difficult of times, we are able to share the weight with them and offer them support both physically and emotionally. The support of our local community enables us to give this level of outstanding care to those who need us. Please help us to continue to do this by supporting our Always In Our Hearts Appeal. 🛑 This is a reminder to all our amazing supporters that it is not standard practice for Woking & Sam Beare Hospice to carry out collections door-to-door or pub to pub whether this is carol singing or bucket collecting. 🛑 If anyone is collecting on our behalf they will always have a letter of authority that they will be happy to share. 🛑 If you are unsure, please do not donate. Sadly, fraudulent collections can be a regular occurrence at this time of year. 🛑 Please do not be put off supporting charities. Anyone who is a genuine supporter will be happy to share ID or letters of authority. Thank you.
