A forward thinking & dynamic School that is proactively responding to the important challenges currently facing society
About us
Welcome to the School of Psychology at Queen's University Belfast. Many people ask ‘What is Psychology?’ Simply put, Psychology can be defined as the study of behaviour. Our pursuit to understand ‘what we do and why we do it’ leads us to study a very diverse range of topics which touch on all aspects of life. These include areas such as education, health and sport with our research impacting on everyone’s life, quite literally from the cradle to the grave. We are proud of our educational portfolio that nurtures our students’ quest for knowledge. We currently have over 450 undergraduate students and over 100 postgraduate students. We offer an undergraduate degree accredited by the British Psychology Society and a breadth of postgraduate qualifications, including professional doctorates. Our teaching is consistently rated as being excellent by both external assessors and our students. We are, however, acutely aware of the need to diversify our curriculum and respond to the challenges the modern employment market presents. We therefore strive to provide an educational environment that will empower our students, allowing them to develop and grow to become tomorrow’s leaders. By working hard to build partnerships with employers, we are offering our students work placements and opportunities to study abroad, invaluable experiences that will only enrich their educational journey.

To mark #InternationalMigrantsDay, we would like to share the research of Dr Gulseli Baysu who found that discrimination harms adolescents’ school adjustment. The good news? A positive school climate that embraces cultural diversity can help protect against the harms of discrimination. 🎓✨ This week, we bid farewell to 120 incredible students from Northeastern University School of Law as their semester at QUB School of Psychology comes to an end. Students explored a wide range of subjects across QUB, from maths and engineering to anthropology and literature. Out of the group, 17 chose psychology—and not only did they pass their module, but many excelled! 🧠🌟 Some are even considering majoring in psychology after their time here. Special shoutout to Dr. Jocelyn Dautel and Dr. Chris Gibbons for supporting the students every step of the way. 🎁 As a parting gesture, Dr. Gibbons gave each student a sweet task: once at the airport, connect with a fellow psychology student, grab a coffee, and enjoy some of the finest chocolate from this side of the pond. ☕🍫 To all our American friends, safe travels and good luck on the journey ahead! You’ll always have a home at Queen’s. 💚 #QUBPsych #StudyAbroad #InternationalStudents #LoveQUB
