Thanks to everyone who came along to our PGR induction last week. During the event, students were invited to enter a friendly competition by representing their "ideal research environment" using LEGO. This exercise allowed them to creatively think about the type of mental space and physical surroundings that most suit their working style. We're delighted to announce our winners. 1st place: Conor Loughran 2nd place: Matthew Hulse 3rd place: Beth McKeague Thanks again to all the students who attended the induction and especially to those who entered the competition. Thanks also to our judges, Colin McCoy, Dr Abbie Edgar, and Philip Boland. #GraduateSchoolCommunity #LoveQUB #ResearchCulture

Last month we had the pleasure of welcoming students from St. Cecilia's College, Derry, as they graduated from the Brilliant Club. 🎓 Queen’s University Belfast is a place for aspiration and ambition, and it’s never too early to start thinking about your future. We hope this experience inspired some young students to pursue their academic goals, and we look forward to seeing what’s next for these bright young minds. Dean of The Thomas J. Moran Graduate School, Colin McCoy, addressed students at the event. Colin said: "Everyones’s path is going to be different, but Queen's is a global university, doing world class things that are impacting Northern Ireland and beyond. You’re just starting out on the adventure which will be your life. There are amazing things you will do, and Queens can help." Thank you to these young students for joining us - we hope to see you at Queen’s in the future! 🌟 #BrilliantClub #InspiringFutures #LoveQUB #Education #Aspiration #Ambition

🌟 Thank You for Joining Us at the Graduate School Conference! 🌟 Last Friday, we hosted our latest Graduate School conference, centred on the transformative theme of Artificial Intelligence (AI). This interdisciplinary event brought together expert staff from across Queen’s, external speakers, and showcased the innovative research of our talented postgraduate students. The day began with networking over a light lunch, followed by opening remarks from Graduate School Dean Colin McCoy, who highlighted how “AI is changing the way we work, learn, and think, and we want to help students explore how to use it responsibly and confidently as part of their academic journey.” Our keynote speaker, Professor Philip Hanna, set the tone with Learning in the Age of AI: What Students Need to Know Today to Succeed Tomorrow. Shelby Hanna then discussed Using GenAI for Studies at Queen’s, followed by virtual lectures from Dr. Oli Johnson (University of Sheffield) and Dr. Sarah Hack (University of Surrey). In breakout sessions, postgraduate students presented on AI Within Research, offering insights into the innovative work taking place across Queen’s. The conference concluded with closing remarks from Katy Madden, Head of Postgraduate Student Services. We’d love to hear from attendees — share your favourite moments from the day! And to all students, if you have suggestions for future conference themes or speakers, please share them with us in the comments or reach out directly. Your feedback can help shape our next conference! Thank you again to all our speakers—especially our student presenters—and to everyone who attended, making it an engaging and productive day.
