The Home Office Social Mobility Team welcomed 15 students from the Durham Diplomatic Society (DDS) to our offices this week, giving them an insight into the workings of the department and of some of the career opportunities available in the Civil Service. This was part of their DDS Ambassador Programme which aims to provide members with an insight into working in government. As part of the session, the students heard from the Permanent Secretary, the Director of Communications and other senior staff working in the Home Office. James Holton (Assoc CIPD) from the Home Office Social Mobility Team said: “It was a pleasure to host DDS, helping students from non-traditional and underrepresented groups gain insight into careers in the Home Office. We hope the session has helped inspire and inform their future career paths.” Alex McDermott Founder of Durham University Diplomatic Society said: "Durham Diplomatic Society were incredibly grateful to visit the Home Office at such an exciting and turbulent time in Britain's history. The opportunity for our group to witness the Home Office tackling today's complex problems will surely set them up to face the challenges of tomorrow. Thank you to everyone who so kindly donated their time to support DDS."
