The "People and Planet" Podcast Featuring Animals Asia's Work and Animal Sentience. Host Ayla Alhamad and Asia for Animals Board Director David Neale share the inspiring story behind Animals Asia's journey - from tackling bear bile farming and opposing elephant rides and circuses to championing animal sentience through the One Life project. Animals are sentient beings, and with proper understanding, we can coexist harmoniously with wildlife. This philosophy inspired Dave Neale to develop One Life, an open database of educational resources for NGOs to promote animal sentience. One Life is now sitting under the AfA Coalition, which aims to provide resources about animal sentience for organizations to use freely, and as awareness raising for members of the public to learn about the wonderful animals that share this planet with us. 🎧 Listen to the podcast: https://lnkd.in/gN9jWMX2 🌐 Learn about One Life: https://lnkd.in/gCitDBak

Lady Freethinker is a US-based non-profit with a focus on raising awareness of the myriad ways in which animals are exploited globally. Their ethos is that by exposing animal cruelty, it allows people and organizations to decide how best to act upon the evidence. Within this, Lady Freethinker works to highlight the sprawling problem of animal cruelty content on social media platforms. We are naturally delighted to count them among the members of the coalition we founded to tackle this issue and, of course, extremely grateful for their financial support. Asia for Animals Coalition đã đăng lại bài đăng này
This week, I had the opportunity to share a presentation from a research by SMACC Team at Asia for Animals Coalition at the Asian Primate Symposium (23-27 November), attended by incredible primatologists, sanctuaries, NGOs, and universities. The focus was on a critical but often overlooked issue: cruelty content involving primates on social media platforms. These videos are not just harmful to the animals depicted, they ripple out, impacting sanctuaries, conservation efforts, and public perceptions of wildlife. The fight against cruelty content is a growing challenge, but it's one we can no longer ignore. During my presentation, I also shared the powerful story of FREE MINI (a documentary and investigation by BBC), a macaque rescued from a life of suffering, once exploited for content, now living free, rehabilitated by Jakarta Animal Aid Network (JAAN). This case is a stark reminder of the urgent need to address cruelty content and its far-reaching consequences. This is a new, evolving issue, and it’s exciting to see it being discussed openly for the first time in this forum. I’m grateful for the support and interest from all attendees. Let’s keep this conversation going! If you’re working on similar challenges or have thoughts to share, I’d love to connect. #AnimalWelfare #PrimateConservation #CrueltyContent
