Community-driven Not-for-Profit Initiative to plant 100 Million Native Irish trees across Ireland
About us
The 100 Million Trees Project is a national Not-for-Profit initiative developed by brothers, Richard and David Mulcahy in 2023 with sister Tina coming on board in 2024. The project aims to see the planting of 100 million native Irish trees across the island of Ireland over the next decade, as a community-driven initiative to reverse the immense environmental damage caused by the reduction of forests worldwide and the loss of huge areas of biodiversity. The project’s ambitious aim will be achieved through densely planting between 1000 and 2,500 native Irish trees at a time across small areas of land using ‘the Miyawaki method’. By planting excess trees together these grow much faster, much more densely, create an area considerably more biodiverse and most importantly create a very rapid carbon sink. This inexpensive approach requires significantly smaller planting areas and can be carried out on unused or fallow land across Ireland. Dense small plantations will help mitigate against large forest fires, such as witnessed in Canada this summer, while at the same time provide excellent areas of biodiversity. You can help us make this project happen by making some land available for us to plant on (from 4,400 sq ft up to 11,000 sq ft sites)

🌲 The 100 Million Trees Project team were invited by Hannah and Paddy, who run the idyllic Roundwood House just outside Mountrath in Co Laois, to plant a 2,500 #nativeirishtreeminiforest to further enhance their wonderful place. John and Jacona did the planting, despite very inclement weather, on Wednesday morning. Many thanks to Hannah, Paddy, Frank and Rosemary for "letting us in" to a little piece of heaven. 🌱 Kinldly sponsored by AIB Forestry Services Ltd Blessington Lakes Garden Centre None-So-Hardy (Forestry) Ltd. 🌲 100 Million Trees Project - 2,500 #nativeirishtreeminiforest at Irish Country Meats. On a beautiful frosty November morning, the staff of Irish Country Meats, Co Wexford, including the General Manager, James Byrne, rotated to plant a 2,500 native Irish tree mini-forest on their land. This is the brainchild of Maedbh Frawley, the Sustainaility, Environmental and Animal Welfare Officer, who worked away at the planting for the whole day and "shepharded" all the staff as they came and went. Maedbh chose the site for the mini-forest beside her Biodiversity garden. Many thanks to Maebdh and Irish Country Meats, and to AIB for their generous sponsorship. What a wonderful contribution to the environment. Forestry Services Ltd None-So-Hardy (Forestry) Ltd. ANNAVEIGH PLANTS LIMITED Blessington Lakes Garden Centre Martin Blake Frankie King

Following Friday's resounding success in planting a #nativeIrishminiforest (2,030 trees) at Aras on Uachtarain, we had our first Gaeltacht planting of a native Irish mini-forest (1,500 trees) thanks to the wonderful Ui Ghealbhain family from Barr an Stuac, an Sean Phobal, Co Waterford. The 1,500 trees were planted by Colette, Ciaran, Domhnall, Deithin, Eili, Aoibheann and Sean O Gealbhain, with help from Mairead(Mamo), Catherine and Rose-Ann Foley (Mol Sceal), Patrick Prendergast, and under the watchful eye of John and Jacano from Forestry Services Ltd. Thanks to Emer Ni Neachtain. While the planting was going on, seven other native mini-forests had started planting around the country (total 29,000 native Irish trees), and this week 18 mini-forests totalling 57,000 native trees will be planted. Well done to all involved. It is truly becoming a peoples project. Thanks to AIB for their wonderful support. Thanks to None-So-Hardy (Forestry) Ltd. , ANNAVEIGH PLANTS LIMITED and Forestry Services Ltd, for their trees and expertise, and to Martin Blake and Frankie King for capturing the memories --------------------------------------------------------------------- Tar éis rath iontach an Aoine seo caite nuair a cuireadh coill dhúchasach Éireannach beag (2,030 crann) ag Áras an Uachtaráin,tharla an chéad phlandáil i nGaeltacht ar choill dúchasach beag (1,500 crann).Tá a bhuíochas ag dul do theaghlach iontach Uí Ghealbháin ó Bharr an Stuaic, An Sean Phobal, Co. 🌲 A contrast between one side of a path in Deansgrange Park and the new #nativeirishtreeminiforest and wild area on the other side. Many thanks to Joe Hannon and Deirdre Hannon for their wonderful sponsorship of the 2,000 native tree mini-forest in conjunction with the 100 Million Trees Project , and also to Paul Conlon and Frank Flynn and the wonderful staff of Dun Laoighre Rathdown CC for allowing the planting of the area and for their wonderful layout and fencing. A very original layout with the mini-forest fenced in the middle, followed by a much larger area fenced and growing wild with trees planted by the DLRCC staff spread throughout. A beautiful new area of biodiversity replacing well-cut grass. 🌲 https://lnkd.in/d63qefSz

Dear Supporter of the 100 Million Trees Project This is to thank you most sincerely for having taken part in our 2023-2024 planting season by setting aside some of your land to plant an Irish native tree mini-forest. Your contribution has allowed us to surpass our target of planting 200,000 Irish native trees throughout the country by planting 201,750 this season (see video link below). Along with your generous support we wish to acknowledge Uniphar Group for sponsoring the project. As of now we have raised enough corporate sponsorship to plant 550,000 trees in the 2024/25 planting season and have already received over 120 commitments from land-owners around the country who want to be part of the 100 Million Trees Project. We hope that you will continue to act as ambassadors and that you will spread the word for us. A short reminder that you should walk down any long grasses or weeds that might be growing around the saplings once or twice over the summer months. Again - we cannot thank you enough for helping us do something important to make a difference to the climate crisis that is facing us. Together we can effect change. Our very best wishes Richard Mulcahy, Dr David Mulcahy and Tina Mulcahy https://lnkd.in/eBhbaTc5
