Last week, the 2BoSS Project proudly joined the “Workshop on In Situ/Operando Characterization of Chemical and Electrochemical Energy Processes”, organized by ALBA Synchrotron, CONSEJO SUPERIOR DE INVESTIGACIONES CIENTÍFICAS (CSIC), Instituto de Catálisis y Petroleoquímica, Institut de Ciència de Materials de Barcelona (ICMAB-CSIC), Institut Català de Nanociència i Nanotecnologia (ICN2), IFAE, InCAEM and our project partners at IREC - Institut de Recerca en Energia de Catalunya (and supported by HEALING BAT & SyDECat)   With nearly 100 attendees, the event was a remarkable gathering of experts in fields like #battery research, #energystorage, chemical processes, and advanced #materials, among others💡. 8 leading researchers (Alba Garzón Manjón, Ashley Black, Katharina Märker, Laia Francàs Forcada, Marcos Fernández García, Virginia Pérez Dieste, Laura Simonelli, and Juan Jesús Velasco-Vélez shared their insights on in situ/operando techniques, including case studies, and the latest breakthroughs that are driving advancements in energy conversion and storage.   A special thank you to our IREC - Institut de Recerca en Energia de Catalunya collaborators – andreu cabot and to Yu Jing, Jordi Arbiol, and Marcos Fernández García – for organizing this impactful workshop and for spotlighting the support of 2BoSS 👏🏻. Exciting times at the International Conference on Sustainable Development in the Minerals Industry - SDIMI 2024 in Torino, Italy! 🚀 Last week, our Politecnico di Torino team (gian andrea blengini, Isabella Bianco, Elisa Accorsi & Giulia Pezzin) had the chance to present their latest #research for the 2BoSS Project. In this occasion, Giulia Pezzin showcased her poster "Prospective Life Cycle Assessment of emerging battery technologies: silicon-sulfur and 2BoSS," highlighting her work on a prospective LCA model to assess future #environmental impacts of the 2BoSS #battery. 🌍🔋

Last week, the annual BATTERY 2030+ conference was held in Grenoble🇫🇷 , and it was a privilege to be part of such an important event! Many thanks to the organizing teams and BATTERY 2030+ members Simon Perraud, Alain Ali Fouladkar, Frederic Chandezon, and Sandrine Lyonnard. Over 320 participants from across #Europe gathered to collaborate on creating the sustainable #batteries of the #future and to share their innovative ideas 🔋 💡. The 2BoSS project was well-represented with two posters: one showcasing the silicon #anode developed by Commissariat a l'Energie Atomique et aux Energies Alternatives senior research scientist Pascale Chenevier, and another highlighting a #sustainable new #businessmodel within the #circulareconomy framework ♻️, presented by IREC - Institut de Recerca en Energia de Catalunya andreu cabot, Jordi Jacas Biendicho and Cleopa GmbH Alessandra Manzini. IREC’s young scientists and researchers were notably active during the poster sessions. The conference featured industrial presentations, keynote speeches, young scientists’ sessions, poster pitches, and #networking 👥 opportunities during coffee breaks ☕️. Additionally, we had the chance to engage with manufacturers, start-ups, European associations, project coordinators, and more. The discussions were inspiring and the ecosystem was prominent, with key players including BATTERY 2030+, BEPA - Batteries European Partnership Association, Batteries Europe, EMIRI, InnoEnergy, EIT InnoEnergy, and others. Mathieu MORCRETTE (Centre national de la recherche scientifique) introduced the battery valley in northern France and highlighted the major French players such as Syensqo, Umicore, Verkor, Tiamat Energy, and SOLiTHOR. Thank you to everyone who contributed to making this event so interesting and successful! ✨👏🏼

Curious about the Battery Pass project? 🔋 - Funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK) and aligned with EU Battery regulations, Battery Pass ensures #sustainability, #traceability, and top-notch quality in #electricmobility solutions 🚙 and other #battery related applications. It's all about translating legal requirements into practical definitions and technical guidelines for the implementation of the Battery Passport in #Europe and beyond. Cleopa GmbH and the 2BoSS Project are teaming up with the Battery Pass consortium, contributing to the related DIN DEK SPEC. Recently, the group met in Munich, hosted by Systemiq Ltd. ltd, to finalize guidelines for implementing EU battery regulations ⚖️ . Kudos to Dr. Torsten Freund of BASF for warmly welcoming everyone and to Dr. Lisa Risch of Acatech and Nikolai D'Agostino of Circulor for their invaluable insights on key #circularity aspects and #duediligence👏🏼. The meeting was a happy get-together where leaders of the working groups did a great job by gathering all the relevant information from joining #industry partners. 📅 Mark your calendars! - Battery Pass is hosting events and demos at HANNOVER MESSE. The Battery Pass consortium core partners include BMW Group, AUDI AG, Fraunhofer IPK, Umicore, VDE Renewables GmbH, BASF, Circulor, TWAICE, FIWARE and Systemiq Ltd., alongside various supporting organizations. It's a collaborative effort shaping the future of battery technology. ⚡️💡

Having a #battery that's not only powerful but also safer to use. That's the promise of lithium-sulfur batteries 🚀 . However, there are challenges, especially with the materials used inside them. In this regard, a potential solution has been found: a special sulfur #cathode made of tiny particles called Li2S, paired with a new type of #anode made of #silicon. This is a clever way to make these cathodes by mixing them with a special material called CoFeP-CN. This mixture helps speed up the chemical reactions inside the battery, making it work better and last longer ✅. Tests have shown these batteries have a low starting barrier, hold a lot of #energy ⚡️, and can last through many charging cycles🪫 . Plus, when combined with silicon anodes, they make for even better batteries, showing high #capacity and lasting #power over many uses. This breakthrough could mean safer and more powerful batteries for our future gadgets and #electricvehicles 🚙 .
