Dr. Lauren A. Johnston (江诗伦)'s research on the bubble of all bubbles in the #DonkeyHide market, culminated in the #AfricanUnion banning the slaughter of donkeys for their skins.
Pin the Tail on the #Donkey: the bubble of all bubbles via which to read #China's (blindfold) economy is not housing - but #DonkeyHide (yes, ass ass) which over recent years became what may be the most epic & exotic valuation bubble ever? "More money than #Moutai! Over 10 years the price increased by 30 times, "supplement industry's top flow" (now) confronts the delusion of sky-high prices" https://lnkd.in/euSjcnqN "In 2001, the price of #DongeEjiao ejiao was 80 yuan per kilogram. With the continuous promotion of Dong’e Ejiao, by 2019, the price soared to 5,996 yuan per kilogram." "Of course, as the most important raw material - donkey skin, also because of the price of Dong’e #Ejiao, from the previous 25 yuan a sheet, sold to 3,000 yuan a sheet, a full 120 times the price." For details on the unique & particular institutional advance of the #HunanModel, #Niger, #Nigeria, here is an open-access SSRN working paper update on the #HunanModel paper:
According to the #GlobalTimes, #WangYi's 2025 early January #Africa visit - to #Namibia, the #CongoRep, #Chad & #Nigeria - eyes a 'three-year action plan, to boost #GlobalSouth cooperation'. The #Chad and #Nigeria leg may include issues like growth, #debt, #LakeChad's resources, and also discussion of cross-country border trade #logistics. That's especially interesting since both #Nigeria & #Niger (which borders #Chad & #Nigeria) have a prominent new role in the Africa geography advance of the new "#HunanModel" for #ChinaAfrica development, itself advancing since publication of this 2023 #SAIIA paper: https://lnkd.in/emVJrmxn For details on the unique & particular institutional advance of the #HunanModel in #Niger and #Nigeria, here is an open-access SSRN working paper update on the earlier #HunanModel paper: https://lnkd.in/dG3Ef89Q Footnote: the origins of the "Hunan Model" have a chronological cross-over with both the launch of #AfCFTA and the #USAChina #TradeWar in 2018, meaning that #Trump's return may push the Hunan Model along too. Congrats as the University of Ibadan unveils on January 14th, 2025, the First Distinguished Personality Lecture of the Faculty of Economics and Management Sciences, a book compilation of Reminiscences of 15 Distinguished Alumni of the Department, led by Professor Adeola Adenikinju
The Department of Economics, University of Ibadan is undoubtedly the oldest and best department of economics in Nigeria and one of the best in Africa. The department has produced so many great alumni who bestride various sectors of the Nigerian economy. During my term as the 16th Head of Department of Economics (2021 - 2023), I desired to produce two historic books for the department. However, working with the interim alumni council that I set up, one of the books is now out and would be formally unveiled on January 14th 2025, at the First Distinguished Personality Lecture of the Faculty of Economics and Management Sciences. It is a real treasure. The book is a compilation of Reminiscences of 15 Distinguished Alumni of the Department, especially the first generation of graduates and lecturers. They described how the department looked like in the sixties and seventies and their experiences first as students and then lecturers. The book is a resource that is for both alumni, current students and those who would like to build a first class department of economics in their universities. Please join us at the unveiling of the book on the 14th of January, at the famous Trenchard Hall at 3pm. The Chief Presenter is a Distinguished Alumnus of the Department, Dr Segun Aina, FCIB. The book reviewer is Prof Olanrewaju Olaniyan, VC of Alayande University. Grab a copy of the book and listen to the voices of Professors Ademola Oyejide, Ibi Ajayi, Akin Iwayemi, Doyin Soyibo, Ademola Ariyo, Kassey Garba, Christiana Okojie, Mike Obadan, Olu Ajakaiye, Segun Aina, Bismark Rewane, among others, taking you on their journey through this iconic department. ##universityofibadan #departmentofeconomics #alumni #economics #facultyofeconomicsandmanagementsciences
