📚 New scientific paper ! “What other secrets do these tiny predators hold?  How do they truly affect marine ecosystems? The story of Picozoa is far from over, and each new discovery opens the door to more questions about life in the ocean’s smallest corners. “ 🗣 Paula Huber 🔬 Picozoa are small, enigmatic eukaryotic microorganisms found in marine environments, where they play a crucial role as predators of other microorganisms.  This research underscores their ecological significance and evolutionary complexity, revealing that species exhibit distinct distribution patterns influenced by latitude, and that closely related Picozoa do not always occupy similar ecological niches. The Atlantic Ocean plays a pivotal role in regulating the Earth’s climate, yet it is taking blows from harmful human activities. Dr. Emma Rocke from the AtlantECO Project is just one of the EU-funded research heroes building resilience in the face of these challenges. Discover our webinar on the newly published Ocean Literacy Toolkit for the Atlantic Region, designed to inspire educators and enhance ocean literacy in the classroom 📚 IOC/UNESCO and AtlantECO partners launched the AtlantECO Toolkit, a material designed to promote ocean in the school contents and to support teachers to bring the ocean to the school in a multidisciplinar way. 🎙️ Episode 52 - Artificial intelligence in oceanography 🗣️ Meet Bruno Buongiorno Nardelli, researcher at the Italian National Research Council (CNR) Ph.D. Marine Science, Laurea in Physics. Bruno's research focuses on understanding how various oceanic variables contribute to climate change and the behavior of marine ecosystems. He has developed techniques utilising statistical analysis, physical models, and artificial intelligence to interpret observations and improve our knowledge of the earth’s systems. Within the AtlantECO project, Bruno's efforts are directed towards analysing data to understand phytoplankton abundance through ocean color satellite data and separating natural oceanic oscillations from those induced by anthropogenic activities.
