Did you know? Anchoring offshore wind turbines isn’t a ‘one size fits all’⚓it requires a tailored approach. Depending on the seabed’s depth and composition, there are a few different foundation types to choose from: ⚡️ Monopile ⚡️ Jacket ⚡️ Gravity The Blue Mackerel team is carrying out detailed seabed, wind, and wave investigations to determine which foundation type will give us the best support 🌬️🌊 Find out more about these activities here: https://lnkd.in/gYPKMnn5 #BlueMackerel #FridayFact #OffshoreWind #SustainableDevelopment #RenewableEnergy #Gippsland #Victoria #Parkwind
Blue Mackerel
Renewable Energy Power Generation
Accelerating offshore wind in Australia to create lasting environmental, economic and social benefits
About us
Blue Mackerel is positioned to be one of the first offshore wind farms to supply sustainable energy to Australian homes and industry. In April 2024, the Australian Offshore Infrastructure Registrar awarded the Blue Mackerel project a seven-year feasibility licence for a 163km2 area. Subject to approvals, Blue Mackerel would deliver its planned capacity of 1GW of renewable energy by 2032. That’s enough to provide over half a million Victorian homes with green power. Blue Mackerel is accelerating offshore wind in Australia to create lasting environmental, economic and social benefits. About JERA Nex Blue Mackerel is being developed by JERA Nex, through its wholly owned subsidiary Parkwind. JERA Nex invests in, owns and operates a global portfolio of offshore wind, onshore wind, solar and battery storage projects totalling 3.4GW. As one of the first recipients of an offshore wind feasibility licence, JERA Nex is playing a central role in Australia’s energy transition towards a low emissions future.

First Management Plan approved for Australian offshore wind surveys! ⚡️ We’re pleased to share that the Blue Mackerel Metocean and Geophysical Management Plan was recently approved by the Offshore Infrastructure Regulator (OIR). That makes us the first offshore wind project in Australia to secure such approval under the Offshore Electricity Infrastructure Act 2021 and the Offshore Electricity Infrastructure Amendment Regulations 2024. 🔎 What does this mean? We can now move ahead with our marine surveys of metocean conditions, and investigations of the seabed – a critical step in our feasibility assessment activities. These activities follow on from our recent successfully completed geophysical investigations to map the seabed 🌊 ⛴️ On the water from early March 2025: - Our geotechnical survey vessel – the Fugro Mariner – is gearing up for detailed seabed investigations. - We’ll launch our Floating Light Detection and Ranging (FLiDAR) system to gather essential data on wind, waves, currents, and tides over the next 2-3 years. 📑 What is the Management Plan? The Metocean and Geotechnical Investigations Management Plan is required prior to starting any marine surveys that make contact with the seabed. It’s the comprehensive roadmap for our marine survey activities – detailing when, where, and how we operate, complete with environmental assessments and protection measures 🐠 A tremendous effort by all involved. We owe a huge thanks to the Gippsland community members, the fishing industry stakeholders, and everyone who offered their time to chat with us. Why offshore wind? Australia’s strongest winds aren’t on land...they’re out at sea! 🌊 🌬️ Onshore and offshore wind are distinct resources, each with distinct benefits. In extreme weather conditions when other types of energy generation struggle to operate, offshore wind can still run. Victoria’s Bass Strait is an ideal location for offshore wind—with high wind speeds, shallow waters and proximity to major energy users. What excites you most about the future of offshore wind? #BlueMackerel #OffshoreWind #RenewableEnergy #SustainableDevelopment #renewablenergy #cleanenergy #offshorewind #gippsland #victoria

The summer heat—and those strong coastal breezes—didn’t stop us from having some fantastic conversations with you all at Seaspray and Golden Beach over the long weekend. Imagine if there was a way to harness this natural force for good 🤔 A big thank you to everyone who took the time to share your thoughts on offshore wind at our pop-up sessions—it’s always great to see both familiar faces and first-time visitors. A special shoutout to Seaspray Surf Life Saving Club for their generous hospitality. Some key questions that stood out from our discussions: 💡 How will the community benefits scheme be shaped? 🌱 How do marine surveys support environmental stewardship? 🐟 What does offshore wind mean for fishers? We’ll be back in Gippsland soon for more in-depth engagement, so keep an eye out. Missed us? Stay updated on our progress and upcoming events at 🌐 www.bluemackerel.com.au #BlueMackerel #RenewableEnergy #CleanEnergy #OffshoreWind #Gippsland #Victoria #Seaspray #CommunityEngagement #GoldenBeach

Our team is currently conducting geophysical surveys on Gunaikurnai Sea Country, and we’ve got up to 16 crew members on board at any time. One of them holds a particularly important role: our Marine Mammal Observer, Oscar Dunn🐋👀 Their job? To monitor and record the presence and behaviour of marine mammals and other protected species around our vessels. This ensures the safety of our aquatic friends🐬while helping us carry out our surveys responsibly and safely for both the crew and marine life. We had a chance to chat with Oscar before they set sail—check out the video for a behind-the-scenes look into their day-to-day! 🎥 For more info, visit us at www.bluemackerel.com.au or email us at info@bluemackerel.com.au ✉️ #BlueMackerel #Meet #MeetTheTeam #Gippsland #OffshoreWind #MarineMammalObserver #RenewableEnergy #Victoria #BehindTheScenes Reach Subsea Port Anthony
