California for the Arts is California's statewide arts advocacy organization.

About us

CA for the Arts is the only comprehensive, multidisciplinary organization focused on advancing and building public awareness of the value and impact of arts, culture and creativity across California. With over 15,000 active subscribers and hundreds of members representing thousands of artists and arts and cultural organizations, we take on opportunities and challenges that no single organization or artist can represent alone. Moved by our deep conviction of the civic and personal value of the arts, our mission at CA for the Arts is to ensure that the arts are accessible to all Californians; are an ongoing part of the public dialogue and to encourage Californians to care about the arts as a critical component of their own lives and the lives of their communities. We fight for arts resources and policies that benefit our members and all residents of California. Our work and support of civic engagement, arts education, cultural equity and the creative economy, positively impacts every community across the state.

Our year-long work on behalf of artists and creatives is a labor of love. Through CA for the Arts and CA Arts Advocates, we link field building, advocacy, and policy development to shape the future of creativity. As the movement for creativity grows to every corner of the state, we need your support to continue leading the fight. According to our 2024 California Arts Advocacy Field Survey, California’s creative community seeks to build the future in three distinct ways: ▶️Collaboration within the field ▶️Cross-sector collaborations ▶️ Coalition-building. Together, arts advocates have been leading the charge. Through building relationships with elected officials, we have found new lines of funding and new cross-sector partnerships on both the local and state levels. We achieved momentous milestones - from establishing pandemic reopening guidelines for the arts to securing historic levels of relief funding; to establishing programs like California Performing Arts Nonprofit Paymaster and the forthcoming Equitable Payroll Fund; to having the Governor identify the arts and creative economy as strategic industries to strengthen in California. Our 2030 goal is to mobilize our diverse communities to develop public policies where arts and culture serve as drivers of community health and economic development. Notably, 70% of survey respondents said that diversifying and increasing sources of state funding for the arts through cross-sector initiatives is a top policy priority.  When you support our work, we have time to build the necessary cross-sector partnerships and local networks. Start the new year as a member. Help us advance creative solutions across government sectors. Creativity is at the table because of the unwavering support of members like YOU! ⭐Introducing Natalia Neira, Grassroots Arts Advocacy Program Fellow. Natalia Neira (she, her) is a cultural worker, curator, and strategist based in Huichin, Ohlone Territory (Oakland, CA). A Chilean immigrant of Mapuche, Andean, and Spanish heritage, she focuses her artistic practice on cultural revitalization projects rooted in ancestral knowledge and traditional art forms. Working closely with Indigenous and traditional arts cultural bearers, she creates gatherings that revitalize ancestral wisdom, lifeways, and language for well-being and collective liberation. These projects form The Caracol Collective, a framework and network that emphasizes healing ourselves to heal society and Mother Earth. With nearly a decade of experience, Natalia supports BIPOC artists and the ecosystems sustaining them across the Bay Area arts landscape. As the former Executive Director of La Peña Cultural Center, she became attuned to BIPOC artists' needs across the Bay (2016-2024). She also co-chaired the Berkeley Cultural Trust’s Equity & Inclusion Committee from 2019 to 2023, leading advocacy efforts that centered racial justice. Currently, Natalia is a Creative West Greater Bay Area Arts & Culture Coalition Fellow, where she advocates for racial and economic equity. Her fellowship project documents coalition-building practices rooted in Indigeneity and racial justice, creating frameworks and tools to share with the field. The Grassroots Arts Advocacy Program (GAAP) is a cohort-based fellowship program for artist advocates who directly engage in advocacy and policy development to advance the holistic well-being of the field. GAAP is funded by The Kenneth Rainin Foundation. Learn more at caforthearts.org/gaap.
